ARES Insights Competes in ‘ASTORS’ Homeland Security Awards (Videos)

Vehicle Recognition is one of the most useful methods of data collection in existence. Most people drive; therefore, most human activity is linked in one way or another to a motor vehicle or vehicles.

Once confined solely to Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR), Vehicle Recognition technology now offers tools that can extract vehicle identifiers such as license plate number, state jurisdiction, and vehicle make.

These have long been among the most sought-after technologies in law enforcement and security and have spread to many other verticals.

Such tools are useful, but comprehensive analysis of vehicle data is needed to maximize the effectiveness for all uses of the technology.

Until now, there has not been a single application that incorporates vehicle identification, true comprehensive data analysis, and a security intelligence reporting tool that can provide actionable intelligence which can be utilized for almost any application.

PlateSmart ARES Insights

Therefore, PlateSmart, the industry leader in software-only ALPR solutions, has introduced ARES Insights.

Many ALPR solutions on the market have been oversold as being able to deliver 24/7/365 review and capture of all vehicle identifiers from video feeds.

The reality, however, has been that these products have not been able to deliver this with any reliability or consistency.

PlateSmart technology uses true Object Recognition to extract vehicle data instead of the industry standard Optical Character Recognition (OCR) approach and is not dependent on infrared (IR) light or proprietary cameras to function, unlike traditional technologies.

As a result, PlateSmart can extract more data from video than any technology of its kind, including license plate number, state jurisdiction/country of origin, and vehicle make.

Future versions will be able to recognize additional identifiers such as vehicle color and other useful data.

Using this paradigm-shifting technology, ARES Insights finally fulfills the promise of comprehensive vehicle recognition, using its data to create information that can be viewed at a glance; and for the first time provide real-time situational awareness using standard video cameras.

PlateSmart CEO John Chigos envisioned ARES Insights as a groundbreaking security intelligence solution that would build on the PlateSmart’s innovative technology with many added analytics enhancements and a reporting tool that would enable flexible and powerful data reporting with intuitive data visualization.

It provides law enforcement and security agencies more than just a stream of raw data; it does provide an easy-to-understand analysis of what the data means.

Before ARES Insights, no product on the market could truly offer this combination of data gathering and analysis.

It is, therefore, the evolution of what was in danger of becoming a dead technology – Video Analytics.

Initially, Video Analytics solutions were notoriously unreliable, producing far too many false alerts, a fact that ultimately relegated the technology to a tool for investigation of events after the fact.

PlateSmart completely changed that paradigm. The Company’s advanced AI and machine learning capabilities had made Vehicle Recognition intelligent.

Now, ARES Insights would bring the same thing to data analytics, enabling users to be proactive instead of reactive.

Finally, the promise of the Predictive Policing model is fulfilled.

Predictive Policing was supposed to use data analysis to help law enforcement predict when and where officers would be needed most, but it never completely lived up to that promise.

This is now possible with ARES Insights, which allows users to see all necessary information and act in real time far better than any previous technology of its kind.

PlateSmart ARES

ARES Insights includes an extensive suite of analytics and reporting functions that makes it a truly unique product in the marketplace.

Information reporting in Insights is based on an intuitive Visual User Interface and graphical formatting and mapping of data.

Features include “heat mapping,” which enables the user to see the geographic locations where the most vehicle captures and/or alerts are concentrated.

The solution’s AI can be used to overlap these vehicle captures with criminal event data from external mapping tools, helping authorities to more quickly bring perpetrators to justice or prevent ongoing events from escalating.

Users are also able to generate line graphs, pie charts, and bar graphs that break down vehicle captures by such factors as camera, license plate, capture time, vehicle make, and capture location.

Data can be sorted in any way the user sees fit, with ability to export in PDF, Microsoft Excel, or CSV formats is included.

Analytic tools include the ability to detect vehicle circling or loitering at a location and many other anomalous vehicle movement patterns, which may indicate to authorities that additional investigation is needed.

Capture data can then be used as probable cause to investigate a particular vehicle. Furthermore, PlateSmart is constantly developing new analytic capabilities for Insights, all of which can be added by a simple software upgrade.

Additionally, future versions of ARES Insights will be able to incorporate data from external third-party applications into its analytics and thereby provide even better situational awareness for securing cities, states, and countries.

PlateSmart offers ARES Insights users a unique advantage with PlateSmart Network, a secure peer-to-peer data sharing protocol that enables agencies using ARES to share their vehicle capture data.

With PlateSmart network in place, tracking criminal suspects becomes possible across cities, states, or even whole countries.

It is also an unparalleled tool for analyzing vehicles suspected in AMBER alerts.

Moreover, data can be shared directly and in real time with statewide data fusion centers that can be accessed by law enforcement for investigative purposes.

It is important to note that PlateSmart’s technology ensures that data remains in the hands of law enforcement and is not stored on any third-party private server.

PlateSmart as a company never sees or touches user data. One of the Company’s founding principles is that data belongs to the user and has the added advantage of making data less vulnerable to hacking.

(License Plate Recognition (LPR) technology has been around a long time, but PlateSmart License Plate Recognition Software-Only Solutions truly represent the cutting edge. Courtesy of PlateSmart  and YouTube)

ARES Insights truly represents the next level of video analytics by combining the state of the art in vehicle recognition and data gathering with cutting-edge analytic features for better situational awareness than ever before.

PlateSmart ARES

This product and all of PlateSmart’s current and future products are the culmination of almost 15 years of work to create the best available Vehicle Recognition technology for the security of our nation, and will be among the most important tools for physical security ever deployed.

This is a fulfillment of the Company’s mission—to protect law enforcement officers from random acts of violence and help recover missing children more quickly.

PlateSmart technology can also be one of the most important weapons to fight terror, as the anomalous vehicle movement detection capabilities of ARES Insights can easily be the key to detecting the actions of a “lone-wolf” terrorist before that person can act.

In short, PlateSmart has created a major paradigm shift in the security industry with the introduction of ARES Insights.

Always a trailblazing Company, PlateSmart has once again set a new standard in cost-effective, easy-to-deploy, and above all, powerful Vehicle Recognition and data analytics tools.
