Bosch VMS Joins Ranks of PlateSmart ALPR Integrations

‘ASTORS’ Award Winning PlateSmart, cutting edge AI technology and analytic capabilities detect suspicious vehicle movement behavior, such as repeated parking for an extended prior, or frequently driving around a site without stopping, known as ‘circling behavior,’ for proactive intelligence that can prevent an attack from occurring rather than investigating after an attack has occurred.

PlateSmart Technologies, Platinum Award Winner in the 2019 ‘ASTORS’ Homeland Security Awards Program, has added yet another major VMS brand to its portfolio of integrations.

The company announced its flagship enterprise automatic license plate recognition (ALPR) and vehicle recognition solution — PlateSmart ARES® — is now integrated with the Bosch Video Management System (BVMS).

“PlateSmart’s ALPR software is the perfect complement to BVMS,” explains John Chigos, CEO, PlateSmart Technologies.

“BVMS is flexible, scalable and ideal for any number of applications and industries. And now, those who take advantage of BVMS can also avail themselves of PlateSmart’s award-winning ALPR and vehicle recognition.”

Like PlateSmart ARES, the Bosch Video Management System is designed to integrate easily with an existing security infrastructure — a business philosophy that mirrors that of PlateSmart.

BVMS can also monitor up to 200,000 cameras (depending upon the edition), while PlateSmart also boasts the ability to read plates from a virtually unlimited number of cameras. Both aspects make the partnership ideal.

PlateSmart was the first ALPR company to use early forms of artificial intelligence (AI) as part of its software solution.

Today, AI coupled with deep learning has allowed PlateSmart software to evolve beyond only ALPR into a true vehicle recognition solution.

“PlateSmart ALPR solutions can provide a wealth of actionable data to users,” added Chigos.

“This goes beyond the plate and its jurisdiction to include vehicle color and make. Soon we will be offering vehicle type and orientation.”

“PlateSmart has been and will continue to be at the forefront of vehicle recognition technology.”

The award-winning PlateSmart ARES® ushered in a new era of software-only LPR that can work with virtually any video management system (VMS) or IP camera.

Cutting-edge deep learning technology allows PlateSmart ARES to deliver true object recognition for more actionable vehicle data.

This includes the license plate as well as the state jurisdiction, vehicle make, color, orientation and type.

How PlateSmart ARES Excels

NEW TECHNOLOGY Corrects Hard-to-Read Plates: Perspective Correction

  • Technology called Perspective Correction lets you make plates captured at up to a 45 degree angle look as if they are directly in front of the camera.

  • The Result? Dramatically improved accuracy without the need to move the camera.

NEW TECHNOLOGY Delivers More Actionable Data

  • Cutting-edge deep learning technology lets PlateSmart Ares capture even more vehicle data:

    • Vehicle color

    • Vehicle orientation

    • Vehicle type

NEW TECHNOLOGY Enhances CPU Performance

  • Looking at the entire frame for a plate can tax the CPU.

  • Users can specify exactly where in the frame PlateSmart ARES should look and when, minimizing strain on the CPU and enhancing performance.

    • Frame regions

    • Frame masks

    • Motion triggers

Filters Through Graphics

  • PlateSmarts Patented edge-finding technology consistently identifies the plate, even if surrounded by bumper stickers.

Doesn’t Require a Sweet Spot

  • It doesn’t matter where in the frame the license plate appears.

  • If the camera sees it, PlateSmart ARES can read it!

Reads Through Dirt and Grime

  • PlateSmart ARES doesn’t require reflective material, so it reads dirty license plates with ease.

Reads Plates at Night Using Traditional IR Light or White Light

  • PlateSmart ARES can work with IR light, but it’s not required.

  • It can read plates at night using any modern white light source.

Reads Stacked Characters

  • Some plates feature characters stacked vertically.

  • PlateSmart ARES can read them.

PlateSmart Sees Specialty Plates

  • One of the challenges of conducting LPR in the U.S. is the variety of specialty plates.

  • PlateSmart ARES is not tripped up by this. It can easily read specialty plates.

PlateSmart Can Read Temporary Tags

  • PlateSmart ARES doesn’t require reflective material, so it can read temporary tags as easily as regular tags.
