As the United States recovers from a year of unprecedented natural disasters, American Signal Corporation (ASC), a 2017 ‘ASTORS’ Homeland Security Awards Program Winner, is shining a light on the continued importance of outdoor sirens as a cornerstone in first alert emergency alerting and mass communication systems.
2017 saw unmitigated wildfires throughout the Western United States, torrential hurricanes and tropical storms in the Gulf of Mexico, and extreme winter conditions across much of the Central and Eastern United States.
And though each disaster varied in severity and range, populations affected by them relied first and foremost on alerts from area sirens to keep them abreast of developing inclement conditions.
Siren alerts provide instant, indiscriminate awareness of developing situations, regardless of the nature of the threat.
When information or the time for action may be limited, outdoor alerting sirens make at-risk populations aware.
For example, a wildfire may expand quicker than emergency managers can issue mobile or message board updates.
As direct communication mediums are updated in intervals, outdoor sirens make the threat clear and immanent in a more general way.
Together, they create a layered, continuous approach to mass notification.
“Even as emergency alerting capabilities become more robust, outdoor sirens remain an effective mass notification tool,” explains Richard Roe, Executive Vice President at American Signal Corporation.
“Mass notification systems must provide a layered approach to reaching as many people as possible in the shortest amount of time.”
I-FORCE OUTDOOR WARNING SIRENS
The i-FORCE by ASC is designed for community, DOD applications, colleges, universities, industrial, nuclear, petrochemical, or other applications that require high levels of sound pressure level output with superb acoustical performance and brilliant voice notification broadcasting.
The i-FORCE sirens can be activated individually or in dynamic groups from a central point using Ethernet, satellite, radio, cellular or landline.
“Locally stored” messages at the sirens greatly enhance intelligibility tones or pre-recorded voice messages.
The electronic control decoders are programmable for various tone out protocols. Any of 10 standard or optional customized tones can be activated.
E-CLASS OUTDOOR WARNING SIRENS
The latest in innovative emergency notification products from ASC. Developed with over 35 years of alerting and voice notification experience, the E-Class is a high powered configurable voice/siren.
The E-Class high powered voice/sirens are fully configurable for a wide range of alert signal tones as well as highly intelligible pre-recorded or live voice directions for community, industry, or DOD Mass Notification applications.
ASC can also provide all electronic control components such as the Siren Control, (Telephonic – or – Radio – or Satellite) Decoder (optional), pre-wired at the factory.
This factory wiring maximizes efficiency and accuracy, resulting in reduced installation time and cost.
In order to provide citizens with the most effective outdoor warning sirens possible, cities, municipalities, universities, industrial plants and nuclear power plants around the world trust American Signal Corporation as the highest standard in outdoor notification equipment and systems.

ASC has been manufacturing outdoor warning sirens since 1942, remaining on the cutting edge of tonal alert technology since that time.
Today, the company’s i-FORCE and E-Class electronic sirens and Tempest™ mechanical sirens are deployed throughout the world, protecting populations from natural disasters and other diverse threats.
