Emerging Turnstile Trends Creating the Pathway to Change

Businesses and government agencies today are facing uncertainty with the COVID-19 virus still running rampant throughout cities nationwide.

With all the uncertainty, one thing that has remained consistent is the importance of securing the perimeter of private and government buildings across our nation.

Aeroturn LLC has been selected as a Finalist in the 2021 ‘ASTORS’ Homeland Security Awards Program

Security has and will always be the number one focus for most facilities. However, COVID-19 has helped bring to the forefront some positive changes as we are seeing a huge push in the market for touchless entry points.

Traditionally, facility managers would look at the cheapest turnstile solution to just get the job done. Today, superior durability and a touchless turnstile experience are in high demand rather than an average system that is poorly made.

In addition, property managers need to know who is coming into their building and must keep out visitors who do not comply with the new COVID-19 safety protocols.

Many amusement parks, sports venues, schools, and corporations are looking to use entrance turnstiles and exit turnstiles with counters to get accurate measurements of how many people are in their facilities, when peak traffic is, and to see whether there are still people in their facilities.

Along with the trend of a touchless check-in, there is a significant increase in demand for touchless facial recognition biometric credentials.

This mode of check-in is not only sanitary and efficient, but it is arguably the most accurate way to gather credentials as one’s face or fingerprints are difficult to duplicate in comparison to an ID badge.

Continuous development of public transportation infrastructure is predicted to drive the waist-high turnstiles market

Another trend we are seeing is an increased use of climb-over protection with accompanying alarms.

Climb over protection includes anti-climb fence spikes, anti-climb paint, and others, used to deter people from attempting to illegally gain access into buildings by climbing walls.

According to a report done by 360 Research Reports, the global turnstile market size is around 256.4 million USD, and it is expected to reach 323 million USD by the end of 2026, with a CAGR (compound annual growth rate) of 3.3% during 2021-2026.

Rapid urbanization in developing countries and continuous development of public transportation infrastructure is predicted to drive the waist-high turnstiles market and create opportunities for manufacturers and distributors of turnstiles.

The access control systems that are increasingly popular are supported by turnstiles.

Businesses and government agencies are looking for advanced turnstiles that have narrower entries, shorter cabinets, and use overhead detection, making them ideal for entryways with space restrictions.

We can also make the prediction that shatter-resistant glass will catch on as a trend in the near future to prevent active shooter incidents from happening.

Along with the trend of a touchless check-in, there is significant increase in demand for touchless facial recognition biometric credentials.

With many government officials returning to the office, safety is a huge priority at government agencies.

Coming up with a consistent solution for varying locations is the biggest challenge in the government sector.

Most don’t have a uniform action plan in place that can be deployed at all facilities that stays consistent with their security goals.

This may mean having a security team with access to a centralized database or requiring turnstiles at every entrance.

One way in which government agencies can get back to work safely and quickly is by using its power to ask security manufacturers and integrators for far more strict access requirements than commercial and private spaces.

As my motto in life is “ask and you will receive”, security professionals need to step up and ask their security manufacturers to do better.

Aeroturn, a leading turnstile manufacturer that offers 100% Made in The USA turnstiles, has managed to adapt to these uncertain times and take the reins of emerging trends.

We have been involved in the introduction of touchless facial recognition biometric credentials at multiple location in the last year.

We have also catered to our government clients by developing a hybrid touchless system for military bases in the Atlantic.

Aeroturn’s team is aware that we must educate the end-user and integrator about the superiority of our product if we want to stand out from the rest of the turnstile manufacturers.

As turnstiles are getting more popular and commoditized, they are not perceived to have the same value as they did before.  In addition, the bar has dropped significantly when it comes to front door security.

Aeroturn’s team is aware that we must educate the end-user and integrator about the superiority of our product if we want to stand out from the rest of the turnstile manufacturers.

We know that performance capabilities must be communicated, while putting emphasis on our permanent zero-maintenance solution when giving a product demo to customers.  After our presentation, decision makers are almost always certain about their decision to go with our superior product.

In response to the climb over protection equipment trend, Aeroturn has created moving height glass with an 82’’ aff maximum which keeps out potential threats that could climb over an average manufacturer’s 60’’ aff maximums.

It is extremely important for the turnstile manufacturers to be able to integrate to new security technology and be just as reliable if not more than the traditional physical access control expectations.

It is counterproductive to not be able to integrate new credential products with a highly reliable turnstile product.

Our company’s products integrate seamlessly with the nation’s top access control systems, and we take pride in the durability we offer to customers.

Moving forward turnstiles will be required to be extremely durable and reliable and other main entrance protection will be spotlighted.

This new push will be due to the increased security and safety protocols pushed on the security personnel & management from the executive teams of corporations, governments & schools.

Turnstiles are here to stay and will continue to help bring people back to the office safely and efficiently.

The epic, transformative career of Bill Bratton, legendary police commissioner and police reformer, in Boston, Los Angeles, and New York When Bill Bratton became a Boston street cop after returning from serving in Vietnam, he was dismayed by the corrupt old guard, and it is fair to say the old guard was dismayed by him too.
