‘ASTORS’ Award-Winners MOBOTIX and Konica Minolta, are currently developing a new camera platform that specifically meets the requirements of deep learning methods and will lead to innovative recurring revenue models for both companies.
“MOBOTIX is a strategic partner for Konica Minolta and we have seen very good progress with the common development during the past year why it will be further expanded to develop innovative video technology even faster,” says Yuji Ichimura, senior executive officer of Konica Minolta.
(MOBOTIX was featured on Inside the Blueprint, a TV show broadcast on January 13 by Fox Business that focused on safety at school. A high-quality, intelligent access control system was installed at the Francis Parker School in San Diego, California. The excellent video and audio quality of the decentralized MOBOTIX video door stations allows for the prompt and reliable detection of unauthorized intruders on the 22-hectare school campus. The new MOBOTIX camera platform, jointly developed with Konica Minolta, is based on the distributed intelligence in our camera system and is crucial for artificial intelligence and at the same time the key for the communication of our products with other sensors and devices in the network to enable “Beyond Human Vision” solutions.
These solutions include the reliable detection of threats through the combination of different sensor technologies as well as the independent initiation of measures to counter such threats.
The state-of-the-art analysis methods located on the camera itself helps users increase process efficiency and develop new business and revenue models.
Future software updates will enable completely new functions based on deep learning methods, such as the recognition of human behavior, moods or voices.
In order to make this possible, a so-called “plug-in concept” is being further developed that goes far beyond what is available on competing products.
This allows customers to easily create new features similar to developing apps for mobile devices while taking full advantage of the system’s performance, including full CPU and GPU power and programmable logic.
Examples could be analyzing customer behavior in retail situations and detect emergency situations in elderly homes and hospitals or analyze quality in production lines.
“The further development of software projects with Konica Minolta is of key strategic importance for MOBOTIX and we are very pleased to see this development being increased significantly” says CTO, Hartmut Sprave.
“We have already explored several synergies by the technology cooperation which drives faster innovation being critical as a global player.”
“We look forward to progress this further as the global market changes still more rapidly with increased focus on cyber security and need for video technologies to analyze the human behavior.”
“Our new platform will be a hub for edge video systems that allows integration with our cyber secure technology partners,” added Sprave.
“MOBOTIX has gained significant experience in edge recording during the years as it has always been a strong DNA of the company which we now bring to the next levels.”
“We are proud to see this being supported significantly by Konica Minolta.”
(In January 2019, MOBOTIX organized a retail consumer event at Konica Minolta’s Milan Business Center, highlighting the close technological partnership between the two companies. The resulting synergy effects of this partnership have already produced a series of innovative security concepts for various vertical markets. Superior cyber security, business intelligence, intelligent thermography and AI-based video analysis open up a whole new world of possibilities with integrated IoT video security solutions by MOBOTIX and Konica Minolta. The first products based on the new camera platform will be launched in the first quarter of our financial year 2019/20.
Konica Minolta has confirmed to expand the common development projects focusing the new video/IoT platform with MOBOTIX to min. € 3 million during the financial year 2018/19.
