TiniFiber® is designed to overcome the challenges of the growing need of micro armored fiber optic solutions at airports to ensure security for all passengers.

TiniFiber is pleased to announce the company’s Micro Armor Fiber™ has been nominated to compete in the 2018 ‘ASTORS’ Homeland Security Awards Program.

Airports are sensitive to targets from terrorism, security breach and harsh environments. Every day, millions of passengers trust the airport to take them to their destinations.

Security must be reliable, transparent and ensure the traveler of utter safety while at the airport.

Cameras must be operational at all times and downtime from fiber optic failure is not an option.

TiniFiber® is a revolutionary U.S. patented and U.L. approved manufacturer of micro armored fiber optic cables to meet the needs of the harshest environments to the tightest pathways at the airports.

Founded in 2010, TiniFiber aimed to solve the challenge of a fiber optic cable to be built around the smallest Outer Diameter (OD) and lightest stainless-steel Micro Armor Fiber™ for superior durability, bendability, ruggedness, as well as crush and rodent resistant.

This includes airport project usages from aerial, buried, small pathways, powered cables and more.

TiniFiber uses single and multimode fiber optics in the micro armor such as OS2, OM1, OM3, OM4, OM5 and strand count from 1 TO 144 Strands (250u/900u/Ribbon) to meet all needs and projects.

Additionally, TiniFiber manufactures a variety of Multi-Strand pre-termination that are available with MTP/MPO, LC, SC, ST, MU, HDMI (digital signage) etc. to meet all installation needs.

The Jackets are available for Riser, Plenum, Indoor/Outdoor, LSZH, Burial as well as Industrial uses and conditions at the airport.

The patch cords can be prepared to meet all needs, lengths for standard or custom lengths.

Furthermore, TiniFiber® are designed to lower the installation costs of support systems, pathways AND manpower hours from current bulky (AIA) armor.

Impact to Airport Security Industry

According to Securitysales.com, the security market will grow to $42 billion USD by 2019 with a compound annual growth rate for IP-based video surveillance of 24.2 percent from 2013 to 2019.

Airports face many factors which explain the rise in demand for video security systems including:

  • Increased threat of terrorism, crime/violence prevention
  • The rise in the “Internet of Things” (IoT) and Big Data
  • DAS for connectivity throughout the airport
  • New applications such as Digital Signage Commercial Advertising (Imagine as you walk throughout the airport the system “recognizes” you, allowing delivery of various context-appropriate advertising tailored to your typical buying habits

Higher resolution is always superior in surveillance video, as it allows those monitoring the video feed to see smaller objects, or to see people, license plate numbers, and other elements more clearly.

Today’s 4K video cameras are making significant improvements in security.

With high resolution, these cameras can be placed at considerable distances from the area they monitor and still allow digital zoom to pick up small objects.

In one instance, a camera located two miles from a city center can be digitally zoomed to pick up license plate numbers.

Some estimates are that a single 4K camera video feed, with modern video compression, needs about 15 Mbits/sec minimums of bandwidth (without video compression the bandwidth needs are much higher).

Therefore, the need for a safe, secure and tamper resistant fiber optic solution are imperative to ensure minimal downtime through out the airport and terminals.

Security/Networking and Airports Challenges to Address

The security networking industry is in hyper growth for fiber optic designed solutions that are driving the need for high speed and data driven resolutions.

Space has been a major constraint factor in managing new fiber optic networks over existing conduits throughout existing airport terminals and buildings.

Therefore, the need to upgrade systems through traditional conduits and ducts are challenging and can be costly to replace and adds manpower hours to the project.

Nearly 40 years ago, Corning developed the Aluminum Interlocking Armor (AIA) to protect the fragile fiber optic glass.

The Aluminum Interlocking Armor solution is rigid, bulky and a cumbersome material. The internal fiber optic glass, when stressed to bend beyond its capabilities will break.

TiniFiber® Product Concept

TiniFiber® is a revolutionary innovation for the fiber optic cable industry that provides several advantages for the Security, DAS, CATV, and IT throughout the airport terminals and buildings.

Micro Armor Fiber™ is the “Single Best Solution” to encase and protect the fiber optic cables.

Airports are sensitive to security and data breach as well as meeting the needs of millions of customers needing to connect quickly to the internet, Wi-Fi and cellphones.

User Friendliness at Airports

TiniFiber® Micro Armor Fiber™ is 65% smaller in size and 75% lighter than standard Aluminum Interlock Armor (AIA) and easy to install as a one-man project.

A standard 3,000-foot 12 strand spool of AIA can weigh 1,200 lbs. and has a 13.9mm outer diameter versus TiniFiber® that weighs 297 lbs. and has only a 5.5mm outer diameter.

The added toughness and strength of the Tinifiber® makes pushing and or pulling the Micro Armor Fiber™ through conduits, aerials or even under the ground a time saving and user-friendly solution.

The fiber cables can be housed as a single strand for Fiber from single to multiple strands of 144 or more to support all security needs and projects at the airport.

Powered Fiber Cable System for Cameras at Airports

Powered Fiber Cable Systems (PFCS) are a great option for handling long-distance data transmission, but what about also delivering power?

PFCS addresses the need for local power as well as the need for fiber data connectivity.

The PFCS incorporates an optical-fiber termination point, a hybrid cable that includes both single-mode and multimode fiber and electrical conductors, and a remote termination node that plugs into the camera being powered.

The TiniFiber® Hybrid Fiber + Power solution allows the installer to run Micro Armor Fiber™ optics and power to cameras in a single jacket that saves time, space and costs for the end user.

Quality

TiniFiber® is a manufacturer of the highest quality Micro Armor Fiber™ optic cable solution in the world.

The stainless steel armor is machine wound around the fiber optic strands to provide tremendous strength, ruggedness, and bendability for all practical projects and uses.

Additionally, Kevlar® strands are added to reinforce the strength, and water block yarn is added for use in outdoor applications.

TiniFiber® Micro Armor Fiber™ patch cords are half the size and substantially stronger than conventional jumpers.

The Micro Armor Fiber™ is easy to splice and faster to terminate for custom solutions versus standard AIA.

Since the OD is the same as non-armored fiber cable sizes, TiniFiber® is a perfect replacement for all your fiber needs.

Airport Value Proposition

Security systems cannot afford downtime due to faulty cables from vermin and tamper attacks as well as being crimping, breaking, etc.

The opportunities to use TiniFiber® in projects are almost infinite.

The cost/value proposition is enormous and adds features and benefits to all projects for the airport.

The long-term benefits of Micro Armor Fiber™ that adds protection from the patch cord to miles of cabling for indoor/outdoor premises, aerials and all projects at the airport.
