We understand the concerns facing today’s military community.
The TEXT, WEB & APP Tip Line is a partnership between NCIS and the military community AND provides service members and civilians a safe, discreet and ANONYMOUS option to report criminal and force protection threats within the USN and USMC without concerns of retaliation.
What type of information does NCIS need?
The NCIS mission is to investigate and defeat criminal, terrorist, and foreign intelligence threats to the United States Navy and Marine Corps.
Types of crimes investigated by NCIS include rape, narcotics, child physical and sexual abuse, burglary and robbery, theft of government and personal property, fraud, and homicide.
Within the Department of the Navy, NCIS also has exclusive investigative jurisdiction into actual, potential or suspected acts of espionage or sabotage.

How do I submit a tip?

Anonymous Text Tips
To send a text tip to NCIS follow these steps:
- Text to 274637 (CRIMES)
- Type “NCIS“ at the beginning of your text message.
- Type and send your message including as much detail as possible to ensure the tips can effectively be investigated.
- You will receive a text with an alias code—This will be your tipster identity code.
Anonymous Smartphone App Based Tips
To send a text tip to NCIS follow these steps:
- Download and open the Smartphone TipSubmit app from your cellular provider’s marketplace.
- Choose Manually Select and Agency
- Choose USA then Federal Agency
- Create a Password
- Select New Tip
- Fill out the form with as much information as possible
- Select Submit Tip

Tips submitted by text message are encrypted, entirely
confidential, completely anonymous and are immediately
processed by NCIS.
