ZeroEyes, creators of the AI Visual Gun Detection Software – and the 2023 Platinum ‘ASTORS’ Award Champion for Best Metal/Weapons Detection Solution –  is pleased to announce that AFWERX has selected its wholly-owned subsidiary ZE Government Solutions (ZEGS) for a SBIR Phase II $1,247,962.00 contract.

ZEGS will create and provide innovative capabilities that will strengthen the national defense of the United States of America. It is focused explicitly on coastal security and awareness to address the most pressing challenges in the Department of the Air Force (DAF).

ZEGS focuses on developing and delivering unique and proactive artificial intelligence solutions for national security to the U.S. federal government. The company’s software layers over existing digital cameras to help secure military installations at home and abroad while freeing manpower to perform other mission-critical tasks.

“The ZE Coastal Alert System will proactively identify, track, and respond to imminent threats in real-time, providing warning and actionable intelligence where traditional coastal security may face challenges,” explains Mike Lahiff, CEO and co-founder of ZeroEyes, the parent company of ZEGS.

“We are thrilled to receive this SBIR Phase II award, and remain committed to excellence in national security innovation.”

ZEGS is equipped to develop a wide range of solutions, from unmanned aerial drones and robotic dogs furnished with AI gun detection and portable digital video security systems to advanced imagers that can detect threats in environments where traditional intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) actions are impossible.

AFWERX, the innovation arm of the Department of the Air Force, will use the ZEGS ZE Coastal Alert System (Z-CAS), which aims to provide a digital, portable, and self-sustaining tool to protect valuable assets on Joint Base Charleston.

Joint Base Charleston contains $7.5 billion in base property and capital assets spread across three seaports, two civilian/military airfields, 39 miles of rail, and 22 miles of coastline.

The Z-CAS solution of lightweight, portable platforms equipped with state-of-the-art radars with AI for threat identification, providing a coastal security and awareness tool for use on mobile platforms for the base and its assets.

The ZeroEyes aggregation platform for critical C2 operations will leave forces more vital and equipped for future challenges.

As the DAF’s innovation arm and a directorate within the Air Force Research Laboratory, AFWERX brings cutting-edge American ingenuity from small businesses and start-ups to address the DAF’s most pressing challenges.

AFWERX employs approximately 325 military, civilian, and contractor personnel at six hubs and sites, and has executed 4,697 new contracts worth more than $2.6 billion to strengthen the U.S. defense industrial base and drive faster technology transition to operational capability.

ZeroEyes delivers a proactive, human-verified AI gun detection software solution that integrates into existing digital security cameras and helps to mitigate mass shootings and gun-related violence by reducing response times, providing actionable intelligence with images, and delivering clarity among chaos – ultimately saving lives.

ZeroEyes’ patented solution has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as a promising anti-terrorism technology. It is the first video analytics technology to receive the SAFETY Act DT&E Designation.

Founded by Navy SEALs, Special Operations military veterans, and technologists, ZeroEyes dispatches accurate and real-time actionable intelligence about the illegal brandishing of a gun.

Should a gun be drawn near or in an occupied area or building, ZeroEyes will notify local staff and law enforcement with an image of the shooter(s) and the location of the threat as fast as 3 to 5 seconds from the moment the gun is detected.

The ZeroEyes team also provides tech consulting, installation assistance, and practice drills for active shooter events to enhance safety at schools and corporate and government facilities.

Headquartered in the Greater Philadelphia area, the company’s affordable and effective gun detection solution has been adopted by the U.S. Department of Defense, leading public K-12 school districts, colleges/universities, healthcare facilities, commercial property groups, manufacturing plants, Fortune 500 corporate campuses, shopping malls, big-box retail stores and more.

American Security Today’s Annual ‘ASTORS’ Awards is the preeminent U.S. Homeland Security Awards Program, and now entering it’s Eighth Year, continues to recognize industry leaders of Physical and Border Security, Cybersecurity, Emergency Preparedness – Management and Response, Law Enforcement, First Responders, as well as federal, state and municipal government agencies in the acknowledgment of their outstanding efforts to Keep our Nation Secure.

  • ZeroEyes also helps to de-escalate swatting and hoax incidents by determining if the threat is real or fake, providing necessary situational awareness to first responders.

  • The information provided by ZeroEyes is invaluable to first responders, who must act quickly with as much information as possible about a potential active shooter. A common issue seen today when active shooter incidents occur is that first responders lack the situational awareness necessary to locate the shooter, contain the threat, and prevent further loss of life.

  • In most active shooter events, more than one hundred 911 calls are being made with contradictory reports, creating significant confusion (a ‘fog of war’) and making it impossible to gauge the true nature of the threat. ZeroEyes has been shown to cut response time by nearly 2/3rds in training scenarios.

(The Ocean City School District in New Jersey and the city’s boardwalk have implemented new technology developed by ZeroEyes, a company that says it uses AI, paired with human experts, to scan camera feeds for guns. Courtesy of ZeroEyes and YouTube.)

  • The first video analytics company to receive the US Department of Homeland Security SAFETY Act Designation, ZeroEyes’ software has detected more than a thousand fake and real guns being brought into schools and other locations.

  • The company’s founders firmly believe in personal privacy, so they designed the software to identify only guns, not people. The algorithms look for guns, not faces or body types. Until a gun is identified, the monitoring screens in the ZOC stay absolutely blank; the team does not see a live feed from any cameras. Further, ZeroEyes’ platform does not store personal or biometric data or conduct any kind of facial recognition, so there is no risk of bias based on skin color or other personal characteristics.

  • ZeroEyes AI Visual Gun Detection solution is deployed in thousands of buildings for hundreds of customers across 35+ states, including the US Department of Defense, public school districts and universities, commercial property groups, manufacturing plants, Fortune 500 corporate campuses, shopping malls, retail outlets and more.

  • *ZeroEyes is also a Returning ‘ASTORS’ Awards Champion, having secured Multiple Wins in the 2022 ‘ASTORS’ Awards Program.
