MSA Security®, an Allied Universal® Company Recognized with Multiple Awards in the 2021 ‘ASTORS’ Homeland Security Awards Program, has executed an exclusive new agreement with Shallow Creek Kennels, a privately owned and operated police service dog importing and training facility located on 40 serene acres in the rolling hills of western Pennsylvania to train MSA canines in firearms detection.

These new capabilities will enhance the company’s existing threat detection offerings, creating a sophisticated new solution to address the escalating active shooter and criminal threat.

Shallow Creek Kennels is professional, dedicated, and passionate about their kennels and dogs, never forgetting the importance of the police service dog’s duties, utilizing their years of experience and knowledge to ensure the highest quality in workability and health, allowing us to offer an exceptional guarantee on both.

Shallow Creek‘s 45,000 SF testing and training academy consist of buildings, fields, wooded areas, and vehicles, allowing officers the opportunity to take as much time as necessary to test for their specific needs, and the owners and several K-9 handlers are available to help officers select or perform tests that MSA Security may require.

(Shallow Creek Kennels is dedicated to providing law enforcement agencies with the highest quality police service dogs imported from Europe available today. The company strives to bring you superior working dogs with balanced drives, great nerves, and excellent temperaments from proven working lines. MSA Security had been the industry’s leading Explosive Detection Canine (EDC) provider for over three decades with more than 800 DHS SAFETY Act designated teams deployed around the world.

MSA EDC teams are capable of detecting a full range of commercial and homemade explosives, including black powder used in firearms, and through this new partnership with Shallow Creek, MSA will be able to train canines explicitly for firearms detection, using odors unique to firearms, regardless of whether gunpowder residue exists on the firearm.

MSA Security is expanding its capabilities to address the rising active shooter threat.

“At MSA Security, we continuously monitor the threat spectrum and enhance our capabilities to meet the evolving needs of our clients,” explains Glen Kucera, Chief Executive Officer at MSA Security.

“In recent years we’ve seen an increase in active shooter incidents, particularly in highly trafficked, accessible sites like malls, hospitals, entertainment venues, and schools.”

“We are pleased to bring a new, extensive firearms detection solution to the market, strengthening the security available for organizations facing an elevated risk.”

Justin Kelley, Vice President of Operations at MSA Security

“MSA Security’s partnership with Shallow Creek Kennels is a natural fit,” added Justin Kelley, Vice President of Operations at MSA Security.

“Shallow Creek has an exceptional program built around rigorous training standards and reflected in its stellar reputation. We look forward to a long and successful relationship together as we bring this new program to scale.”

MSA Security has a long-established reputation for the development of cutting-edge solutions to high-consequence threats.

In the late 2000s, MSA identified the increasing use of homemade and peroxide-based explosives in terrorist tradecraft, becoming one of the first private sector companies to train canines on these highly sensitive and dangerous materials.

Later, as the person-borne explosive threat grew in prominence, with attacks like those at the Stade-de-France in 2015 and Manchester Arena in 2017, MSA pivoted to train canines for explosive odor tracking.

With the introduction of MSA’s Firearms Detection Canines, the company will be able to provide clients with an incredibly effective, versatile, and dynamic solution to aid in the deterrence and detection of concealed firearms.

The solution empowers organizations in an effort to preempt potential mass casualty events, minimize the risk to their guests or patrons, protect their brand, and reduce their liability.
