Ameristar Perimeter Security, Five-Time Award Winner in the 2018 ‘ASTORS’ Homeland Security Awards Program, and a returning competitor in the 2019 ‘ASTORS’ Awards Program, is pleased to announce that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has Designated and Certified Ameristar’s Active and Passive Barriers, under the Support Anti-terrorism by Fostering Effective Technology Act of 2002 (the SAFETY Act).
Maintaining a secure perimeter is the first line of defense against potential threats, and Ameristar Perimeter Security is leading the nation with a full line of active and passive barriers and bollards, (also referred to as ‘crash barriers’ or ‘anti-ram barriers’) to keep people and assets safe.
By achieving this coveted DHS certification, the highest level of liability protection available under the SAFETY Act, makes Ameristar’s active and passive anti-ram barriers now available on the “Approved Product list for Homeland Security.”
The SAFETY Act essentially eliminates liability that could arise out of a terrorist attack for sellers whose anti-terror products have been reviewed and approved by the DHS in America’s fight against terrorism.
Ameristar’s Safety Act Newly Certified products include the following models:
-
Sentinel Wedge
-
Patriot Beam Barrier, a 2019 ‘ASTORS’ Award Competitor

Patriot® Rising Beam Barrier
In one of the most coveted categories serving our nations critical needs for Physical Security, Ameristar’s Patriot Rising Beam Barrier drastically increases perimeter entry security as both a Perimeter Barriers and Deterrent System.
The Patriot Anti-Ram Security Barrier has a rapid deployment rate and remains functional even after a crash, making it an excellent choice for high security access control.
Furthermore, by installing the rising beam barrier within close proximity to an entry point enables the Patriot to work in tandem with a gate system to control vehicular traffic.
The Patriot Barrier utilizes a hydraulically actuated structural beam that is recessed flush with the roadway when granting vehicle access.
It also has a rapid rate of deployment between 3 and 5 seconds, and with EFO (emergency fast operation) control added to this system, deployment rate can be decreased to just one second.
The Patriot Barrier has a full guard height of 36″ and can span distances up to 24 feet.
The crash beam barrier’s primary excavation is outside the roadway opening, and minimal excavation is required across the roadway, which avoids most underground utilities and obstructions.
(The Patriot beam barrier has been crash tested using a 15,000 lbs truck traveling @ 50 mph. As you can see this barrier is still operational after the crash, making the Patriot another great solution from Ameristar Security Products, an ASSA ABLOY Company. With these newly added Safety Act certifications, Ameristar now offers 11 SAFETY Act Certified products including the Impasse II high security fence and the Stalwart anti-ram passive cable barrier system, also a competitor in the 2019 ‘ASTORS’ Awards Program, which received certification in 2015.
Stalwart Optima Fiber Rope Anti-Ram Barrier
Stalwart Optima represents an entirely new category of anti-ram products, utilizing fiber rope technology to provide strength and anti-ram capability to the system.
The fiber rope is housed within their steel post and rail system to provide protection and a sleek profile.
The fiber rope is inherently flexible for multiple changes of direction and allows for continuous runs of 16 to 1,500 feet before termination.
Optima’s unique fiber rope design means that it actually gets more affordable to install the longer the required run, which makes it ideal for large high security facilities.
In addition to utilizing fiber rope technology, Ameristar’s engineers designed this system with a simplified installation process.
Stalwart Optima features a shallow footer design with a required bury depth of only 15 inches, which helps to reduce labor costs and save time.
Additionally, in the unfortunate event of an impact, the repairs to the fence will be less costly than other anti-ram barrier options.
Most importantly, Optima has been crash tested to ASTM F2656 standards, achieving M30/P1 and M50/P2 designations.

Stalwart Optima provides a high level of crash-rated protection for high security facilities while decreasing installation costs and project timelines.
This continued pursuit of anti-terrorism products demonstrates the company’s commitment to protect property and save lives.
“SAFETY Act certification is a great benefit to customers and end-users of Ameristar barrier & bollard technologies, we are excited about the opportunities this certification will bring through future projects and value the designations SAFETY Act provides to current installations of our barrier and bollard systems,” explains Clay Hamann, Vice President of Ameristar Perimeter Security USA Inc.
SAFETY Act provides lawsuit protections that will result in significantly lower liability exposure for Ameristar and its customers should a future act of terrorism occur.
This is a tremendous benefit to contractors who install the product and to security integrators, architects and engineers who specify these products.
Most important, these lawsuit protections extend to Ameristar’s customers should a future act of terrorism occur at their facility.
This new Safety Act Certification may also create an opportunity for Ameristar’s customers to recognize lower insurance premiums, given the elimination of risk of lawsuits in the event of an act of terrorism.
Companies that purchase products from other manufacturers that have not been SAFETY Act approved would not receive such protections.
