American Signal Corporation (ASC), a competitor in the 2017 ‘ASTORS’ Homeland Security Awards Program, has entered final implementation phases for its newest large-scale, multi threat–multi channel early warning system.
The system will be installed in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province, spanning 259,662 square miles of geography and will help protect more than 4 million citizens from natural and man-made disasters.
ASC engineers met with Next Millennium Telecom Co. (Nextel), the Systems Integrator deploying the Eastern Province Early Warning System in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Through a coordinated effort, ASC’s technologies will be set up by Nextel to create a first-alert mass notification system that protects and warns the Province’s citizens.
The initial contract for development of this system was awarded to ASC by the Ministry of Interior following a formal visit to ASC’s U.S. headquarters to personally witness performance tests.
“Our performance tests were clear indicators of quality, reliability and innovation for the Saudi Government,” said Richard Roe, Executive Vice President at American Signal Corporation.
“And, after seeing the robust solutions we were able to offer on both hardware and software fronts, ASC earned yet another opportunity to prove itself on the global stage.”
The Eastern Province Early Warning System boasts 720 individual I-Force high-powered speaker arrays (HPSAs), running on the company’s NEXGen RTU platform. I-Force HPSAs were chosen due to their patented non-re-entrant speaker design, which provides clear, crisp voice as well as a multitude of siren tones.

Managing the system is ASC’s industry-leading CompuLert™ NEXGen Command and Control software. The central command center for the system is located in Dammam, the capital of the Province.
A backup control center running a hot standby IP-linked CompuLert™ NEXGen server and software is located 15.7 miles (25km) away on the Persian Gulf in the city of Al Khobar.
The Eastern Province Early Warning System is designed to be managed completely from the primary command center in Dammam or regionally through one of 13 regional control centers.
The system is connected via IP, DMR digital Radio and GPRS, providing multi-channel capability and two-way functionality for system monitoring and performance analysis, ensuring the ultimate in system reliability.
Compulert™ NEXGen, ASC’s industry-leading management software also provides an intuitive client for remote system access via a tablet or smart device, further protected by numerous levels of security to ensure access is tightly-controlled and monitored at all times.
