CBP Foils Bon Voyage for Man with Sexual Assault Warrant

US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport detained a man who was wanted by the Denton County Sheriff’s Office in Denton, Texas, for felony sexual assault.

Amado Benjamin Gomez, 42, a United States citizen, was scheduled to board an international flight Wednesday for Guatemala City, Guatemala, at DFW.

A review of the flight manifest by CBP’s Passenger Analysis Unit showed that Gomez had an outstanding warrant out of Denton County but was attempting to depart the country.

Whether Gomez was attempting to flee the country is unknown at this time.

CBP gathered intelligence on Gomez’s departure flight and made necessary arrangements to make contact with him before he could board the aircraft.

Officers from CBP’s Anti-Terrorism Contraband Enforcement Team (A-TCET) at DFW visually identified Gomez at his departure gate and intercepted him as he was attempting to board the outbound flight.

“Our officers face a tremendous amount of responsibility safeguarding our nation’s borders from dangerous elements attempting to make entry into our country,” said Cleatus P. Hunt Jr., Area Port Director, Area Port of Dallas.

“However, border management and control encompasses the responsibility of intercepting that same element as it is attempting to depart the country.”

Gomez was placed under arrest for the outstanding felony warrant.

CBP officers turned Gomez over to DFW Airport Police where the Denton County Sheriff’s Office will take custody of him for the outstanding warrant.
