On August 24, the Fort Worth Transportation Authority (FWTA) broke ground at three separate locations for the new 27 mile, nine-station TEXRail commuter rail system that will connect downtown Fort Worth with the Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) International Airport, providing access to major activity and employment centers along the corridor.

CH2M was instrumental in helping achieve this construction kickoff milestone, providing program management consulting services and engineering oversight for the TEXRail project since 2011.
“Our team is proud to be a part of this exciting and critical project that will help the Fort Worth Transportation Authority meet the needs of future travel demands,” said CH2M Program Manager John Tipton.
“Not only will this vital rail route connect travelers with hubs across the region, it will also provide an important economic and employment benefit to the region, while enhancing mobility, easing congestion and improving air quality along the corridor.
We are honored to be working with the Authority to meet these notable goals.”
Over the past two decades, sustained growth in Fort Worth has increased travel demands along the major roadways within the TEXRail corridor and beyond FWTA’s service area.
Existing and committed roadway improvements have not kept pace with traffic volume, resulting in increased congestion and air pollution.
Working to address these issues, TEXRail, from its hub in downtown Fort Worth, will connect with other local, regional and national transportation services, including the Trinity Railway Express, Amtrak, an extensive bus network at the Intermodal Transportation Center and with Dallas Area Rapid Transit at DFW.
Service is expected to begin in 2018.
