Market leader in smart airspace security Dedrone, and Double Platinum Award Winner in the 2022 ‘ASTORS’ Homeland Security Awards Program, has acquired Aerial Armor, a leader in counter-drone systems and an integrator of drone detection hardware.
This new Dedrone acquisition will enable the company to deliver a best-in-class technology platform to meet airspace security needs of the future as demand for counter-drone protections continues to increase in the U.S. and across the globe.
As part of the acquisition, Dedrone will honor all Aerial Armor customer contracts and retain all employees, including company CEO Russ Haugan and CTO Matt Altman. Customers of both companies will continue with no changes to their current solutions in the near term.
In time, Dedrone will leverage the best elements of both providers’ solutions, paving the way for customers to easily implement a multi-sensor fusion, cUAS (counter Uncrewed Aerial Systems) command and control (C2) platform into their existing security infrastructure.
“We have created a fantastic rapport with the team at Aerial Armor and are greatly impressed with their technology, expertise, and the strong customer relationships they’ve built,” explains Aaditya Devarakonda, CEO of Dedrone.
“As we come together under the Dedrone umbrella, we’re confident we will continue to find great synergies in our respective platforms and bring new innovations to market for our customers.”
“All of our customers around the world will reap the benefits of our more powerful C2 cUAS system, powered by inputs from a multitude of sensors including radio frequency (RF), radars and cameras in a single UI.”
“I am thrilled to have Russ, Matt, and the entire Aerial Armor team join Dedrone. We are constantly looking for the finest talent in the market and Aerial Armor provides one of the best groups of individuals with a deep understanding of the cUAS space.”
“I have a lot of respect for the business they have built and am looking forward to building the best-of-breed solution for our customers,” concluded Devarakonda.
This acquisition is the latest in a series of developments following Dedrone’s growth in recent months, including a rapid increase in global demand for detection, tracking, identification, and mitigation technology to protect airspace.
Dedrone’s platform and products, including Dedrone-Portable, which is already in use by the Ukrainian military and governments around the world.
DedronePortable offers easy-to-use, mobile, and agile drone response with optional mitigation and setup in less than 20 minutes.
“The ever-increasing threats to airspace make it clear that the world needs a strong counter-drone C2 platform — point solutions will no longer be enough,” added Russ Haugan, CEO of Aerial Armor.
“Dedrone offers a like-minded team in its approach to the future of airspace security, which is why this acquisition is an important one for our 100+ customers and team to continue to deliver the best possible solution for airspace security against the persistent and escalating threat of drones.”
“Together, our strengths will continue to provide best-in-class service to the venues, airports, federal entities, and law enforcement agencies that rely on us for truly secure airspace no matter the perimeter size.”
Dedrone most recently introduced Dedrone-Defender, a handheld, low-collateral mitigation tool designed for law enforcement in even the most complex of urban environments.
At only 7.5 pounds and just 22 inches long, DedroneDefender is one of the lightest and smallest precision jamming systems available on the market.
It comes equipped with narrow-band jamming to minimize disruption to other devices and meets military standard MIL-STD-810H.
The company works across 40 countries and customers include four G-7 nation governments; nine U.S. federal agencies; more than 75 critical infrastructure sites; 20+ airports; and 50 prisons worldwide.
Dedrone actively provides counter-drone solutions for some of the most high-profile events around the world and works closely with more than 35 law enforcement agencies.
Dedrone Takes Double Platinum in 2022 ‘ASTORS’ Awards Program
American Security Today’s Annual ‘ASTORS’ Awards is the preeminent U.S. Homeland Security Awards Program, and now entering it’s Eighth Year, continues to recognize industry leaders of Physical and Border Security, Cybersecurity, Emergency Preparedness – Management and Response, Law Enforcement, First Responders, as well as federal, state and municipal government agencies in the acknowledgment of their outstanding efforts to Keep our Nation Secure.
Dedrone (First of Two)
As drone use rises, so does the need to effectively monitor, track and mitigate drone threats.
Dedrone detects, identifies, locates, and offers critical insights into the nearly 300 different drone types (the largest variety of commercial, consumer, and homemade drones from over 65 manufacturers) that can infiltrate airspace.
Drone detection is complex as drones come in various shapes, sizes, and control mechanisms, and radio frequencies can also vary. Dedrone offers an all-in-one, flexible cloud-based or on-prem/air-gapped solution for airspace security that includes sensors, tracker software, comprehensive AI/ML-based detection capabilities, mitigation functionality, and advanced analytics.
Dedrone is the most prolific drone security company in the world, working across 33 countries to deliver best-in-class detection, identification, tracking, and mitigation of Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS), and their solutions are used by the governments of four G-7 nations, nine U.S. federal agencies, including the Department of Defense, and internationally by more than 65 critical infrastructure sites, 20 airports, 50 correctional facilities, and ten Fortune 500 companies.

Dedrone (Second of Two)
DedroneRapid-Response, is the first of its kind, multi-layered, mobile AI-powered drone detection unit, offering Dedrone’s AI-powered technology — capable of detecting, identifying, locating, and analyzing nearly 300 unique drone types—in a mobile platform attached to a tower that can be easily towed and maneuvered on a trailer using an SUV or truck.
DedroneRapidResponse provides critical capabilities to ensure public safety at large-crowd events, including sports, parades, concerts, political gatherings, crime scenes, police activity, and more.
The DedroneRapidResponse solution was used to protect the 2022 Firestone Grand Prix, an IndyCar motor race, to effectively improve safety for drivers, race crews, and spectators during the event, including detecting nine drone infractions of the no-fly zone with three incidents occurring during the Indy season opener, making it easy for St. Petersburg PD to effectively assess and manage these threats.

Using cloud-enabled software, DedroneRapidResponse pinpoints the drone, providing insights into its load and the pilot’s location as soon as a drone is turned on, giving security teams a significant head-start on a pilot about to fly into a “no fly zone.”
The tower is deployable in under 30 minutes and offers a range of 5km detection through a multi-layered solution with two cameras to track multiple drones simultaneously. Additionally, Dedrone can easily network multiple trailers to deliver optimal drone security for even larger public events.
*Dedrone was also recognized as an ‘ASTORS’ Award Champion in the 2021, and 2019 ‘Homeland SecurityAwards Programs.

The pinnacle of the Annual ‘ASTORS’ Awards Program is the Annual ‘ASTORS’ Awards Ceremony Luncheon Banquet, an exclusive, full-course plated meal event, in the heart of New York City.
This year’s exclusive sold-out ‘ASTORS’ luncheon featured representatives of law enforcement, public safety, and industry leaders who came together to honor the selfless service of those who stand on the front lines, and those who stand beside them – providing the capabilities and technologies to create a safer world for generations to come.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which came out in force, to discuss comprehensive collaborations between private and public sectors that have led to the development of intelligence and technologies which serve to protect our nation.
The continually evolving ‘ASTORS’ Awards Program emphasized the trail of Accomplished Women in Leadership in 2022, as well as the Significance and Positive Impact of Advancing Diversity and Inclusion in our Next Generation of Government and Industry Leaders.
The keynote address was provided by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office of Field Operations (OFO) Deputy Executive Assistant Commissioner (DEAC) Diane Sabatino, who described the changes to CBP through the tragedy of 9/11 and the relentless commitment to its mission and ongoing investment in the latest technologies and innovations to protect our borders and Homeland.
The resounding theme of the DEAC’s remarks was her pride in the women and men of the CBP and their families who support them.
AST was also joined by Legendary Police Commissioner William Bratton, who spoke, as always, about his love for the City of New York, the Profession of law enforcement to which he has dedicated his life, and for which he continues to drive thought leadership and innovation.
New York City Police Department (NYPD) Chief of Department Kenneth Corey, came out to address Luncheon attendees and shared some of his experiences and the changes in policing he’s witnessed over his more than three decades of service.
FDNY Chief Joseph Jardin honored the men and women of the FDNY, not only those who currently serve but all of those who have selflessly served, with a special recognition of those lost on 9/11.
Chief Jardin spoke about the continuing health battle of many following 9/11 with cancer and respiratory disease, yet now knowing the full consequences, would not have made a different decision to respond.
As Chief Jardin noted, mission-driven service is in the lifeblood of every firefighter, volunteer and sworn and has been so throughout the history of the Fire Service.
