Ever since smartphone companies began offering facial recognition as a PIN alternative, it has become present in everyday life.
In other areas such as access control the biometric method has been used for a number of years, and the field of application is continuing to expand.
Simultaneously, the demands on facial recognition systems are increasing, seeking large amounts of data to be processed in the shortest possible time.
DERMALOG’s facial recognition is setting new standards.
The Hamburg-based biometrics manufacturer claims they can compare up to 1 billion faces per second, which would set a new world record.
For example, matching all of the 511 million citizens of the European Union, the system would require just a split second.

SGS-TÜV Saar has tested the DERMALOG solution and confirmed its outstanding speed.
The TÜV experts had already certified a speed record for the company’s fingerprint recognition: The DERMALOG system can compare up to 3.5 billion fingers per second.
“These outstanding achievements are the result of decades of research and make us the innovation leader in the most important fields of biometric identification,” says DERMALOG CEO Günther Mull.
“The fact that multiple biometric features can be compared in record time also proves our leading role in multimodal biometrics, which is becoming increasingly important.”
Main advantages of DERMALOG Face Recognition
Easy to integrate into ABIS (Automated Biometric Identification System)
Outstanding matching performance
Combining high speed with a high degree of accuracy
Liveness detection to prevent spoof attacks
Live detection of feature points on the face (eyes, mouth, nose)
Live passport image compliance checks of facial features
Automatic face cropping: Possibility to extract the captured face as a portrait with background removal
Robust and fast tracking of multiple faces on videos
Possibility to estimate facial expression
Supports all common image file formats
Multimodal biometric systems allow the simultaneous matching of several biometric features such as fingerprints, faces and eyes.
This makes them much more accurate than solutions that only check a single feature.
DERMALOG ABIS: Combined Identification.
The DERMALOG ABIS (Automatic Biometric Identification System) is a system using several biometric features in combination, like fingerprints, face and iris.
This multi-modal biometric system enhances the accuracy to the maximum.
ABIS is a fully customizable software package – providing the ability to perform tasks for searching, storing and processing biometric templates.
Characterized by the utility to customized deployment models based on unique needs and market conditions, our modular system is specially designed to meet government agency requirements and delivers fast, secure and reliable results.
Fingerprint Matching
Independent tests have confirmed that DERMALOG is a provider of state-of-the-art fingerprint matching techniques capable of fast and accurate fingerprint matching.
Iris Recognition
DERMALOG iris recognition represents an ideal choice as a non-invasive and simple-to-apply biometric solution.
Face Recognition
In criminal investigations DERMALOG face recognition is recognized for user-friendliness and high verification rates.
Palm Recognition
DERMALOG Palmprint Recognition implements matching characteristics that have made our fingerprint recognition one of our best products.
Main advantages of DERMALOG ABIS
ABIS (operating with fingerprint, face, iris and palm recognition) is successfully in use both in civilian identification and law enforcement.
Uncompromised fast matching and searching results with low false acceptance rates (FAR) and false rejection rates (FRR)
No proprietary hardware is required as standard commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware is used.
All variants of ten print (TP), palm print (PP) and latent prints (LP). Any combination (e.g. two fingers, four fingers) is supported.
Customizable workflow and GUI. Coding and matching of shape, global and local similarity checks, heuristics
High usability, easy to integrate, unique security, available in multiple languages
Optional integration of DNA databases
Normally fingerprints and face are used in combination, often also fingerprints, face and iris.
But DERMALOG ABIS can be used with additional palm prints, DNA, veins and others.
The result is a FUSION Score/FUSION MATCHING out of the different biometrics.
Dermalog ABIS ensures quick and efficient service while providing information safety through the use of fault tolerant architecture, disk mirroring, automated database backups, and disaster recovery options.
