DetectaChem, a global leader in handheld explosive and drug threat detection technology, and a twice nominated new finalist in the 2019 ‘ASTORS’ Homeland Security Awards Program, is providing a new weapon for law enforcement in the battle against gun violence.

The company’s newest MobileDetect field test enables homicide detectives, forensic teams, event security personnel, school resource officers and more to detect Gun Shot Residue immediately with smartphone-based technology.

DetectaChem MobileDetect Gunshot Residue (EGL) Field Test

The groundbreaking MobileDetect smartphone detection application has now added an advanced gunshot residue trace detection test.

The MobileDetect app and test pouches are already widely used by local, state and federal law enforcement agencies around the country for detection of drugs such as fentanyl, heroin, synthetics, THC/CBD, cocaine, methamphetamine and more.

The new lead-based EGL Gunshot Residue test provides homicide detectives, forensic teams, event security personnel, school resource officers and more a fast, highly accurate and cost-efficient method for trace detection.

Gunshot Residue can be easily detected from firearm barrels, surrounding areas around discharge points, impact sites, casings, hands, clothing, bags/packaging and more.

How it Works

A swab is removed from the test pouch, used to sample the area of interest, reinserted back into the test pouch and then reacts with specifically formulated chemical agents.

The reacted test pouch is then scanned with the smartphone camera through the free MobileDetect app which instantly generates a positive or negative test result with extensive data including time, date stamp, GPS mapping, additional pictures, pouch kit ID and more for a strong piece of probable cause.

This report can be instantly converted into a PDF which can then be emailed or texted right from the MobileDetect app.

The GSR-Lead Detection Pouch offers detection for the presence of lead which is present with the discharge of a firearm; bullet wipe consistent with the passage of a lead-bearing bullet; or vaporous lead residue left from discharge.

The test can be performed on number of surfaces after a firearm discharge, such as the firearm, victim’s hands, victim clothing, drywall, vehicle upholstery, curtains, carpet, etc.

Lead from firearm includes vaporous lead (smoke), particulate lead, lead in primer residues (e.g., lead azideor lead styphnate), lead bullet, or shot pellet wipe.

Each MobileDetect EGL trace Gunshot Residue test cost only $2.49 each and are available now.

The free MobileDetect app can be downloaded now on Apple and Android app stores.

Core Applications Include:
