Forescout Returns to Compete in 3rd ‘ASTORS’ (Learn More, Multi-Videos)

The recently updated Forescout Device and Visibility Control Platform offers a unique, agentless approach to network security, enabling government agencies to see all of these devices on their networks.

Forescout Technologies, a leader in device visibility and control, and a Platinum Award Winner in the 2019 ‘ASTORS’ Homeland Security Awards Program, is pleased to announce the company’s Forescout Device and Visibility Control Platform has been nominated to compete in the 2020 ‘ASTORS’ Awards Program for Best Cyber Critical Infrastructure Solution.

With the explosive growth of non-traditional endpoints on government networks, it is critically important to gain a consolidated view not only of all government-owned PCs, laptops, servers and mobile devices, but also connected contractor and guest devices, IoT endpoints, operational technology (OT) systems, virtual machines — even rogue devices.

The recently updated Forescout Device and Visibility Control Platform offers a unique, agentless approach to network security, enabling government agencies to see all of these devices on their networks.

It continuously discovers profiles and classifies devices, users, applications and operating systems while monitoring managed devices, personally owned devices and other endpoints.

The Forescout platform uses this contextual device intelligence to apply policy-based controls upon devices and orchestrate incident response and device remediation among multiple third-party security solutions.

Additionally, Forescout excels at meeting or exceeding key technical and interoperability standards of military and civilian customers.

Forescout uses its device visibility and control capabilities to improve and automate asset management, device compliance, network access control, incident response and network segmentation.

Forescout eyeSegment extends the capabilities of the Forescout platform to address organizations’ multi-domain, multi-use-case segmentation challenges.

Through real-time visualizations and proactive policy simulations, Forescout both enables segmentation controls across diverse enforcement technologies and validates expected outcomes.

The solution currently scales to two million devices per deployment across the extended enterprise, including: campus, IoT, data center, cloud and OT.

(Network segmentation doesn’t have to be difficult. Confidently design, build and deploy network segmentation at scale with Forescout eyeSegment. Courtesy of Forescout Technologies and YouTube.)

Government agencies and contractors have a multitude of commercial technologies to consider for their network security, but often choose Forescout for the comprehensive device visibility and control capabilities it provides.

For example, Forescout recently announced the U.S. Department of Affairs (VA) deployed its platform across 1.3 million devices at more than 280 physical locations nationally.

In addition to allowing users to automate and enforce policy-based network access control, device compliance, asset management, network segmentation and incident response, Forescout also provides an extensive range of automated controls that preserve the user experience and keep business operations running efficiently.

Want to know everything that’s on your extended enterprise network? The Forescout platform shows you with 100% device visibility. This visibility enables an accurate device inventory, continuous compliance enforcement, policy-based access control and rapid response to security incidents.

Part of the disruptive nature of the Forescout solution stems from the fact that it supports heterogeneous network infrastructure (switches, firewalls, wireless routers and cloud gateways).

The platform deploys very quickly, offering complete visibility in days, and full deployment in weeks (67 days on average) — with or without 802.1X authentication.

This technology-agnostic approach also extends to third-party IT management and security products, such as integration with Arista, allowing government agencies and contractors to not only retain the products they currently use, but to also quickly embrace new technologies and vendors.

Forescout extends value and improves effectiveness of these solutions by sharing contextual device insights and applying appropriate network and endpoint controls.

Forescout’s comprehensive focus on device visibility and control has made the platform a primary choice to fulfill the hardware asset management requirement for the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Continuous Diagnostics and Mitigation (CDM) Program (fulfilling five out of six Phase 1 Task Orders).

CDM is an acquisition program intended to safeguard, secure, and strengthen cyberspace and the security posture of federal networks in an environment where cyberattacks are continuously growing and evolving, and is constructed in four phases.
CDM is an acquisition program intended to safeguard, secure, and strengthen cyberspace and the security posture of federal networks in an environment where cyberattacks are continuously growing and evolving, and is constructed in four phases.

The CDM Program is charged with fortifying the cybersecurity of government networks and systems by identifying cybersecurity risks on an ongoing basis and prioritizing incident response based on risk severity.

Similar to CDM, early instantiations of the Department of Defense’s “Comply To Connect” (C2C) framework also feature the Forescout platform as a key technology, helping military agencies and units keep track of connected gear, block threats and enforce policies.

Furthermore, Forescout was recently selected by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to participate in the “Firmware Command and Control” project with Idaho National Laboratory (INL) under a grid modernization lab consortium.

The Grid Modernization Laboratory Consortium (GMLC) was established as a strategic partnership between DOE and the national laboratories to bring together leading experts, technologies, and resources to collaborate on the goal of modernizing the nation’s grid.

The purpose of the Firmware Command and Control project is to identify potential vulnerabilities that exist in ubiquitous libraries by using machine learning similarity analysis of embedded code and sharing those findings in a structured format for processing across operational and information technology environments.

In addition to INL, Forescout will also partner with Sandia National Laboratories, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, and Argonne National Laboratory, which was recognized in the 2019 ‘ASTORS’ Awards Program.

New ways in which the Forescout platform is being used includes providing granular visibility and risk assessment beyond traditional campus environments into data centers and the cloud, allowing the most comprehensive single-pane-of-glass visibility across IT and OT networks.

It is also provides accurate visibility and assessment of agentless IoT devices and operational technologies, with the ability to automate segmentation of these systems using native integration with switches as well as third-party integrations with leading next-generation firewalls.

Other innovative ways third-party tools are utilizing the Forescout platform include integrating with ServiceNow® to provide an accurate, real-time device inventory and accelerate incident response.

(Pedro Abreu, Chief Product & Technology Officer at Forescout joins Jeff Hausman, VP & GM at ServiceNow to chat about how our products are better together, why it’s so critical for security and IT to work together, key components of a security strategy, and how to get some quick efficiency gains. The Forescout solution also feeds device intelligence to Splunk® and other security information and event management solutions for advanced event correlation and planning.

A broad range of security and IT management tools leverage the platform’s device visibility and control capabilities.

These and other use cases allow the combined solution to accelerate incident response, reduce the risk of operational disruption from security incidents or breaches, ensure and demonstrate security compliance and increase operational efficiency.

With the release of SilentDefense 4.1 the Forescout platform now is the first network security monitoring tool to intelligently combine all security and operational risk factors into a single, impact-based scoring framework.

This intuitive approach provides security analysts with cyber risk scores to immediately identify assets that have a high possibility of being attacked and conduct detailed forensic analysis of ongoing security events.

In addition, the operational risk score enables OT engineers to quickly identify assets that need immediate attention.

Additionally, SilentDefense updates include enhanced NERC CIP compliance reporting, selective and non-intrusive active inspection for deeper visibility.

If there is one thing that is universal among all government agencies and contractors, it’s the necessity to continuously improve security and prove compliance.

By providing secure network access for a wide range of devices and user populations, the Forescout platform helps government agencies protect their confidential data and support compliance with mandated policies and regulations such as FISMA, NERC, ISO/IEC 27001 and the GDPR.
