GeoComm & RapidSOS to Provide Mobile Caller Location (Video)

GeoComm and RapidSOS, a competitor in the 2016 AST Homeland Security Awards ‘ASTORS’ competition, are partnering to provide enhanced mobile caller location and other additional information from RapidSOS systems into GeoComm 9-1-1 PSAP map displays used by thousands of 9-1-1 call takers across the United States.

GeoComm systems help route emergency calls to the appropriate call centers, display maps of caller locations and help guide police, fire and ambulance vehicles to the emergency location.

With this partnership, 9-1-1 call takers using GeoComm mapping displays will be able to better locate calls from mobile phones using RapidSOS technology, including in some cases media from the mobile phone such as pictures and video.

“Better location of 9-1-1 calls from mobile phones will help our users reduce emergency response times, save more lives, and keep communities safer, and additional media such as pictures and video from mobile phones can provide valuable context and critical information during an emergency call,” said John Brosowsky, Vice President of Product Management and Innovation at GeoComm.

“GeoComm is excited to begin work with RapidSOS in order to help our customers realize the benefits of truly next generation 9-1-1 technology.”

“9-1-1 call takers do extraordinary work despite facing extremely limited information,” added Michael Martin, CEO of RapidSOS.

“We are excited to be working with GeoComm to provide additional information to 9-1-1 call takers via technology natively embedded in a variety of smartphone devices and mobile applications, ultimately providing additional enhanced location data for millions of emergency calls.“

Using all sensors available on modern smartphone devices—including GPS, WiFi-beacons, Bluetooth-beacons, cell tower triangulation and barometric pressure sensors—the partnership will provide handset location to GeoComm customers while providing the option to receive supplementary caller information and multimedia content.

GeoCommGeoComm, was founded in 1995 to provide county governments with turnkey emergency 9-1-1 development services.

Over the subsequent 20 years, the company has grown to serve more than 12,000 dispatchers in 800 emergency 9-1-1 call centers in the United States, helping to keep more than 84 million people safe.

Today, GeoComm has a national reputation as a leading provider of geographic information and communication systems for 9-1-1.

The company’s systems route emergency calls to the appropriate call center, map the caller’s location on call taker or dispatcher maps, and guide emergency responders to the scene of the incident on mobile displays within police, fire and ambulance vehicles.
