A police officer in Selma, Alabama, was killed and a woman was injured in a shooting early Tuesday morning.
Authorities said Selma Police Officer Marquis Moorer was on duty and had just returned to his apartment at Selma Square Apartments for some food when he was fatally shot sometime between 3:30 a.m. and 4 a.m.
A woman, believed to be Moorer’s wife or girlfriend, was wounded and taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.
Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson said Moorer was approached by someone outside and “ambushed.”

Jackson called Moorer “an upstanding officer who took his job seriously.”
Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey said the U.S. flag at the Capitol will be lowered in honor of the slain officer as soon as funeral arrangements are made.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s State Bureau of Investigation is leading a probe into the deadly shooting.

(The Selma Police Department and the city held a news conference Wednesday to announce an arrest in connection with the fatal shooting of 25-year-old Officer Marquis Moorer. Javonte Stubbs, an 18-year-old former football standout at Selma High School, was arrested by the U.S. Marshals and SBI Agents near Tuscaloosa, Alabama early Wednesday morning. Stubbs, who’s accused of shooting and killing Moorer and injuring Moorer’s “significant other” as he returned to his apartment for a lunch break while on duty Tuesday, is charged with two counts of capital murder and one count of attempted murder.
