While others talk about mobility, HID Global cuts the cord to deliver truly mobile solutions for law enforcement officers, homeland security agents, military personnel and enterprises that need to identify and verify individuals anywhere, anytime — with speed, simplicity and accuracy.

HID Global, who was recognized in Three Annual ‘ASTORS’ Homeland Security Awards Programs, is pleased to announce the HID NOMAD 30 Pocket Reader has been nominated to compete in the 2020 ‘ASTORS, one of two HID Global products.

The HID NOMAD 30 Pocket Reader is an affordable, single fingerprint mobile identification solution for efficient and dependable biometric capture and database verification.

It can be tailored to a wide range of use cases, from law enforcement rapid ID in the field to mobile banking customer verification.

Its portability eliminates the need for obtaining fingerprints at a fixed location and facilitates biometric capture in the field.

The ergonomic design of the HID NOMAD 30 Pocket Reader easily provides comfortable singlehanded use by the operator and fingerprints can be collected without physical contact with the subject.

Law enforcement agencies use the solution to efficiently identify individuals in public areas.

This helps keep custody suites free to house confirmed offenders—rather than those awaiting identification—and reduces overall processing costs and keeps police officers patrolling the streets.

A police department in a major city estimates savings of more than $600,000 in the first year of deployment and has positively identified more than 12,000 persons of interest.

The convenience and mobilization of the suspect identification process that the HID NOMAD 30 Pocket Reader enables has improved relations and built trust between the police force and the community it serves.

Key Features of the HID NOMADTM 30 Pocket Reader Include:

  • Automated Capture Process

  • Once a law enforcement officer starts the workflow in the smartphone app to capture both index fingers, illuminated “landing lights” indicate that the device is ready to capture.

  • The automated capture feature makes sure an image is captured automatically, when the image quality meets recognized image quality standards such as the FBI’s.

  • Haptic Feedback

  • A haptic motor* in the NOMAD 30 Pocket Reader gives a vibration as an additional indication of successful image capture notification.

  • This feature combined with the landing lights make it easy for officers to know that a good print was captured, saving valuable time for unnecessary quality checks during an operation.

  • It also allows the officer to avoid close contact with potentially dangerous subjects for more than a few seconds.

  • High-Quality Images

    • The patented, capacitive thin film transistor (TFT) enables the reader to capture superior fingerprint images that meet FBI standards such as Personal Identification Verification (PIV) whether in indirect or direct sunlight.

    • The same technology also facilitates the capturing of dry or dirty fingers, or when fingerprint surfaces are inked or stained.

  • Superior Durability

    • The top surface of the capacitive sensor on the NOMAD 30 Pocket Reader module includes a glass coating that protects the sensor by making it more resistant to scratches or impact.

    • It is more durable for mobile use cases thanks to this protection layer combined with an Ingress Protection (IP) 65 rating for dust and water.

    • The sensor has been tested for up to 1 million touches without a decrease in performance.
