Liberty Defense, a leading technology provider of concealed weapons and threat detection solutions, who took home the Gold for Best Metal/Weapons Detection Solution in the 2022 ‘ASTORS’ Homeland Security Awards Program, has sold its first HEXWAVE™ system to LINEV Systems.

LINEV has been an industry-leading provider of x-ray imaging checkpoint security technology for over 15 years, including AI-driven x-ray security screening, benchtop scientific instruments, and x-ray non-destructive testing (NDT) systems.

Over 1,000 LINEV transmission x-ray body scanners are deployed in 24 State Department of Corrections facilities across the US.

LINEV Systems plans to use the HEXWAVE unit for client demonstrations and act as a reseller for Liberty, focusing on corrections and education verticals.

HEXWAVE is an excellent complement to the LINEV Systems product lineup, offering a touchless, non-ionizing, contraband-detection solution suitable for non-inmate screening at corrections facilities,” explains Bill Frain, CEO of Liberty. “This could include staff, lawyers, and other visitors.”

“After spending several years and $40 million on development, the HEXWAVE is ready for commercial-ization and introduction of its enhanced detection capabilities into multiple verticals in everyday spaces where people gather,” added Frain.

“We are very proud to have the first sale with LINEV Systems and plan to meet the global demand to provide security in public settings to help protect our communities.” 

HEXWAVE production is scheduled to begin in Q1 2023, with delivery of the first units in Q2 2023.

Liberty Defense provides multi-technology security solutions for concealed weapons detection in high-volume foot traffic areas and locations requiring enhanced security, such as airports, stadiums, schools, and more.

Liberty’s HEXWAVE product, for which the company has secured an exclusive license from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), as well as a technology transfer agreement for patents related to active 3D radar imaging technology, provides discrete, modular, and scalable protection to provide layered, stand-off detection capability of metallic and non-metallic weapons.

Liberty also recently licensed the millimeter wave-based, High-Definition Advanced Imaging Technology (HD-AIT) body scanner and shoe scanner technologies as part of its technology portfolio. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA), which was recognized in the 2021 ‘ASTORS’ Awards Program, recently awarded Liberty Defense $1.75M for the development of a prototype HD-AIT upgrade kit for testing on an AIT passenger screening system.

The continually evolving ‘ASTORS’ Awards Program emphasized the trail of Accomplished Women in Leadership in 2022, as well as the Significance and Positive Impact of Advancing Diversity and Inclusion in our Next Generation of Government and Industry Leaders.

The keynote address was provided by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office of Field Operations (OFO) Deputy Executive Assistant Commissioner (DEAC) Diane Sabatino, who described the changes to CBP through the tragedy of 9/11 and the relentless commitment to its mission and ongoing investment in the latest technologies and innovations to protect our borders and Homeland.

The resounding theme of the DEAC’s remarks was her pride in the women and men of the CBP and their families who support them.

AST was also joined by Legendary Police Commissioner William Bratton, who spoke, as always, about his love for the City of New York, the Profession of law enforcement to which he has dedicated his life, and for which he continues to drive thought leadership and innovation.

New York City Police Department (NYPD) Chief of Department Kenneth Corey, came out to address Luncheon attendees and shared some of his experiences and the changes in policing he’s witnessed over his more than three decades of service.

FDNY Chief Joseph Jardin honored the men and women of the FDNY, not only those who currently serve but all of those who have selflessly served, with a special recognition of those lost on 9/11.

Chief Jardin spoke about the continuing health battle of many following 9/11 with cancer and respiratory disease, yet now knowing the full consequences, would not have made a different decision to respond.

As Chief Jardin noted, mission-driven service is in the lifeblood of every firefighter, volunteer and sworn and has been so throughout the history of the Fire Service.
