McLaren Racing Relies on Darktrace AI to Defend Against CyberAttacks

McLaren F1 Racing Are Cyber Secure With 2019 'ASTORS' Award-Winning Darktrace: The McLaren F1 racing team will use AI-driven cyber security technology from Darktrace to monitor on-board IoT via its cloud-based backend.

Darktrace, a leading cyber AI company and Winner in the 2019 ‘ASTORS’ Homeland Security Awards Program, has been selected by McLaren Racing an their AI Cyber Security Partner.

This new multi-year partnership will involve a technical integration of Darktrace’s cyber artificial intelligence (AI) across the McLaren Group, as well as across McLaren Racing to protect the Formula 1 team against cyber-attacks.

McLaren Racing was founded by New Zealand racing driver Bruce McLaren in 1963.

Today, technology and innovation is at the heart of everything McLaren does, allowing the team to compete at their best in one of the most technologically advanced sports in the world.

McLaren Racing competes in the 2020 FIA Formula 1 World Championship with Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris, and the IndyCar Series in North America with Oliver Askew and Pato O’Ward.

Darktrace’s Cyber AI technology will empower McLaren to gain complete visibility across its entire digital infrastructure.

This new visibility will allow McLaren to identify threats as they emerge whether it be from IoT sensors on each Formula 1 car, to the cloud-based software that fuels their operations.

With strategists and engineers required to make critical split-second decisions, time is of the essence for McLaren.

Using Darktrace’s ‘machine fights back’ innovation, a Cyber AI technology that can automatically block cyber-attacks at a speed and scale beyond human capabilities.

As part of this new partnership, the Darktrace brand will be represented on the rear wing of the McLaren MCL35 race car and on the race suits of the team’s race drivers, Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris.

“We’re proud to welcome Darktrace for the first time into the fast-moving world of Formula 1 and to the McLaren Racing partner family,” stated Zak Brown, Chief Executive Officer at McLaren Racing.

“Data is the lifeblood of our racing strategy and so strong cyber resilience is key to our success on the tracks.”

“We look forward to starting our partnership together this season as Darktrace’s Cyber AI will, for the first time, allow our infrastructure to be self-defending.”

“We are excited to be partnering with McLaren, a company with innovation at its core,” commented Poppy Gustafsson, CEO, Darktrace.

“Cyber-attacks that seek to cause disruption to global events, as well as attacks that subtly steal coveted IP, are on the rise.”

“We are proud that our technology is being trusted to automatically protect the McLaren team, enabling them to race to the finish line in the knowledge that their systems are secured by world-leading Cyber AI.”

Darktrace was founded in 2013, and today its AI technology is relied on by over 3,000 organizations worldwide to identify and automatically fight back against fast-moving and sophisticated cyber-threats.

The human immune system is incredibly complex and continually adapts to new forms of threats, such as viral DNA that constantly mutates by learning about what is normal for the body, identifying and neutralizing outliers that do not fit that evolving pattern of normality.

The company’s self-learning AI is modeled on the human immune system and used by over 3,000 organizations to protect against threats to the cloud, email, IoT, networks and industrial systems, which includes insider threat, industrial espionage, IoT compromises, zero-day malware, data loss, supply chain risk and long-term infrastructure vulnerabilities.

Cyber AI Platform

The application of artificial intelligence to the cyber defense challenge has marked a fundamental shift in our ability to protect critical data systems and digital infrastructures.

For strained security teams, it offers the possibility to keep pace with an ever-evolving threat landscape.

While rule and signature-based solutions offer some protection against pre-identified threats, the reality is that attacks consistently evade these and get inside your network.

Powered by unsupervised machine learning, Cyber AI responds to these threats before they become a crisis.

Cyber AI is a self-learning technology – like the human immune system, it learns ‘on the job’, from the data and activity that it observes in situ.

This means making billions of probability-based calculations in light of evolving evidence.

This self-learning ability enables Cyber AI to uncover rare and previously unseen patterns in information, amid the noise of everyday activity across an organization’s digital systems. By detecting subtle deviations from the organization’s ‘pattern of life’, it can distinguish friend from foe – and highlight true cyber-threats or attacks that would otherwise go unnoticed.

Darktrace’s Cyber AI Platform is relied on by more than 3,000 organizations worldwide.

As a new generation of cyber-threats, powered by offensive AI, emerge, Autonomous Response AI will be critical to fight back with the precision and speed necessary.

These machine-speed attacks will only be countered by AI defenses that can stay one step ahead – allowing humans precious time to catch up.
