Navy League 2018 Michelson, Nimitz, Safety Awards Program Winners

From commandants to scientists, industry leaders to active-duty personnel, the Navy League of the United States is honoring outstanding individuals who have excelled in their areas of expertise at its Sea-Air-Space Exposition, to be held April 9 to 11 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center. 

The 2018 awardees are:

Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz Award: Honoring a leader of industry who has made a major contribution to our nation’s maritime strength and/or enhanced our national security.

• Ms. Leanna Caret, executive vice president, The Boeing Co., and president and CEO, Defense, Space and Security

• Mr. Matthew J. Mulherin, president, Newport News Shipbuilding, and executive vice president, Huntington Ingalls Industries Inc., retired

Albert A. Michelson Award: Honoring a civilian scientist, technical innovator, or group or organization that has demonstrated scientific or technical achievement that has resulted in a significant improvement in the strength of our maritime forces or to the enhancement of our industrial-technology base.

• California State University Maritime Academy

Admiral Vern Clark and General James L. Jones Safety Awards: Honoring individuals, units or organizations that best exemplify and advance a culture of safety by making significantly greater contributions to safety than normally expected of those in their assignments.

• 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division

• HM2 Olusola Adeyemo, Headquarters Regiment Assistant Safety and Environmental Chief, 1st Marine Logistics Group

• Naval Construction Training Center Port Hueneme

• Mr. Gary D. Snyder, Safety Manager, Naval Diving and Salvage Training Center

The Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz and the Albert A. Michelson awards will be presented at a luncheon on Monday, April 9 by Dr. Jack London, executive chairman and chairman of the board for CACI.

The Admiral Vern Clark and General James L. Jones Safety Awards will be presented by Undersecretary of the Navy Thomas Modly at a luncheon on Wednesday, April 11.

The Navy League of the United States congratulates the recipients of these prestigious awards.
