Evolv Technology, a leader in AI-based weapons detection security screening, and 2022 ‘ASTORS’ Homeland Security Multiple Awards Champion,  proudly introduces its latest innovation Evolv Extend™, designed to identify non-concealed (or brandished) guns approaching a venue and expand detection beyond the door.

With a focus on delivering critical, timely information to First Reactors (the first line of defense – those near or operating an Evolv Express® system, which detects concealed weapons), Evolv aims to help empower these professionals to take prompt action to address guns visible to the cameras as they approach a venue.

In today’s world, where every second counts regarding gun violence, a swift response is paramount to help reduce the risk of harm.

Evolv partnered with Omnilert to create Evolv Extend, incorporating Omnilert Gun Detect, their best-in-class AI visual gun detection software.

Leveraging Omnilert’s open platform and flexible monitoring capabilities, allowing Evolv to choose where to send detection alerts, Evolv Extend adds another layer of protection, empowering onsite security operators to take immediate action to help prevent potentially catastrophic active shooter incidents.

Combining selected 4k resolution security cameras and AI, Evolv Extend analyzes high-resolution video streams to help identify brandished guns at distances up to 100 feet, depending on gun type and orientation.

Once a potential threat is detected, a comprehensive image highlighting the detected gun and live, annotated video footage from the relevant camera is transmitted to the tablet of the onsite security staff or First Reactors positioned near the Express system.

Additionally, the command center, broader security team, and first responders receive the same image with a recorded video showing when the gun appeared.

The information presented to the user enables them to make a decision and act on it quickly, similar to the experience with Evolv Express’ “Red Box” image-aided alert.

This early warning is designed to help empower security operators to swiftly implement emergency operational procedures, like locking the doors, getting people to safety, and alerting the broader security team.

“The brandished gun detection technology is right up our alley,” said Kyle Jones, deputy superintendent at Florence 1 Schools in South Carolina.

“Evolv continues to be proactive with its products, and this technology is exactly what we need to add to our perimeter of defense.”

“We sent various groups through the trial, including a high school marching band and our SROs, and the weapon was detected every time.”

“With the introduction of Evolv Extend, Evolv reinforces our commitment to delivering the most innovative security solutions that prioritize rapid response and the safety of people,” explains Peter George, CEO at Evolv Technology.

“By helping enable security teams to detect brandished guns from a distance, Evolv aims to provide the information and tools necessary for security operators to proactively address threats and help protect lives.”

Omnilert Gun Detect has a three-step verification process that recognizes a gun and the physical behavior consistent with gun violence. It can easily be deployed with any existing IP-based camera and monitor spaces that other safety technology misses such as exterior grounds and parking lots.

The software was designed with privacy concerns in mind, as facial recognition is not used on monitored subjects, and live video feeds never leave the site.

Omnilert Gun Detect is advanced AI software that can identify a weapon in less than a second. Once verified, it can instantly initiate a robust response, such as locking doors, contacting police, and notifying staff and/or students.

Unlike other offerings, Omnilert provides customers a choice in human verification of gun detections, allowing for alerts to be verified by Omnilert Monitoring centers, the customer’s onsite security team security operations center (SOC), or even a third-party service of their choice.

The intelligence is immediately shared via desktop, mobile, and/or web apps, video management systems, and/or control room platforms. In the case of Evolv Extend, potential threats are sent to onsite security staff positioned near the Evolv Express® system.

These alerts include an image and video feed of the potential shooter, empowering security professionals to implement emergency operational procedures to minimize the threat swiftly.

“Research has shown that 70 percent of active shooting events happen outside a building, and in many other cases, the gunman has the weapon visible as they walk up to the front door,” said Dave Fraser, CEO at Omnilert.

“By integrating our software with cameras located around the perimeter, Evolv customers will now be empowered to stop a gunman before they open fire or enter the premises, providing advance warning to those inside the building and potentially saving many lives.”

“We tested the Omnilert Gun Detect analytics using many kinds of guns, in different environments inside and outside, and under varying lighting conditions,” added Steve Morandi, VP of Product at Evolv Technology.

“Throughout all our testing, we were very impressed with the accuracy of the analytics and low false positive rate,” said Steve Morandi, VP of Product at Evolv Technology.

Evolv Express
Evolv Express™, powered by the Evolv Cortex AI Software Platform, delivers the frictionless high-speed smart firearm and bomb detection system that screens over 3600 people per hour (60 people per minute) and gets smarter over time.

Evolv will demonstrate Evolv Extend in their booth #3945 at GSX 2023 in Dallas, Texas, on Sept 11 – 13, highlighting how the new AI gun detection feature works to keep customers safe from active shooters.

Omnilert will also showcase demonstrations in its own GSX booth #3446, including live gun detection demonstrations of its software and successful VMS integrations with partners such as Avigilon, Genetec, and Milestone.
