PlateSmart Technologies, the makers of the original software-only license plate recognition (LPR) solution, PlateSmart ARES®, and a Platinum Award Winner for Three Consecutive Years in the Annual ‘ASTORS’ Homeland Security Awards Program, is pleased to announce ‘Powered by PlateSmart™ has been nominated to compete in the 2019 ‘ASTORS’ Homeland Security Awards Program.
‘Powered by PlateSmart’ is a unique package that allows security solution providers, including video management system (VMS) providers, camera manufacturers, security software firms and the like — to integrate PlateSmart’s award-winning LPR technology into their own product offerings.
“Powered by PlateSmart is a game-changer,” explained John Chigos, CEO, PlateSmart Technologies.
“Now virtually any kind of business solution that would benefit from offering LPR can do so. ‘Powered by PlateSmart’ is easy to integrate and cost-effective.”
“We’ve done all the work in developing LPR technology that is second to none.”
“Now solution providers can offer this field-tested, proven technology to their customers.”
Built upon AI and deep machine learning, ‘Powered by PlateSmart’ will allow solution providers to offer their customers the ability to read license plates, their state jurisdiction, vehicle make and color.
Soon the tool will be able to address vehicle orientation (front, rear or side) and type for even more actionable vehicle data.
How Powered by PlateSmart Works
The ‘Powered by PlateSmart’ technology has already been deployed in PlateSmart ARES 2.6.0, the latest iteration of PlateSmart’s software-only LPR solution.
The technology offers features designed to minimize any burden on the CPU, enhancing performance.
This includes the ability to specify particular regions of the video frame for the software to look for the plate while masking others, freeing up precious CPU capacity.

‘Powered by PlateSmart’ also improves accuracy in PlateSmart 2.6.0 by addressing some especially hard-to-read plates, those captured at an angle.
Technology called Perspective Correction allows users to instruct the software to take plate images captured at up to 45 degrees and essentially straighten them so they can be more easily, and accurately, read.
