Robotic Assistance Devices Partners with Romeo Power (Multi-Video)

Robotic Assistance Devices (RAD), a competitor in the 2017 ‘ASTORS’ Homeland Security Awards Program, has entered into an agreement with Romeo Power to outfit the SMP Robotics S5 Security Guard Robot with Romeo’s lithium-ion battery packs.

RAD will exclusively use Romeo’s power solution and similarly Romeo will only supply RAD as their exclusive security robot partner.

The addition of Romeo Power battery packs to the RAD robotics solution delivers 12 hours of continuous operation regardless of terrain or climate, and Romeo Power’s advanced battery packs also allows four continuous years of use without replacement.

“This advanced battery from Romeo allows our autonomous security robot to patrol for longer periods of time, increasing its efficiency and operational success,” said Steve Reinharz, President and Founder, RAD.

As we gear up to deploy more advanced robotic solutions to the market, the battery life and power will be a critical feature we can offer to end users.”

“Additionally, Romeo Power is an ideal technology partner as it leads the charge in developing power solutions that drives today’s modern technology deployments.

As part of the company’s alliance, Romeo Power will deploy two S5 autonomous security guard robots at its Vernon, California, headquarters, to patrol the company’s 113,000-square-foot manufacturing facility and surrounding property.

The combination of human personnel with robotic technologies creates a strong value proposition that results in new levels of security and streamlined operations.

RAD has commenced to deploy robots to end users, and to date has commitments for 62 robots for total contract values of approximately $6 million.

OMVS has successfully completed its due diligence process on RAD as part of the binding LOI that was entered into on May 10, 2017, for the purchase of 100 percent of RAD by OMVS. It is anticipated that the acquisition will close before August 31, 2017.

RAD currently has signed agreements for two POC’s with major companies.

RAD currently has a sales pipeline of more than 50 Fortune 500 companies and more than 25 qualified dealers and distributors that have a combined customer base of more than 35,000 end-user corporations.

SMP Robotics S5 Security Guard Robot

The SMP/RAD Robotics S5 Robotic Guard is a fully autonomous unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) that utilizes advanced artificial intelligence systems to augment traditional patrolling services by detecting unauthorized human and vehicle outdoor activity in restricted areas.

S5 Security Robot by SMP Robotics
The S5 is the world’s first commercial outdoor security robot that can function in various terrain conditions: road, off-road, grass and gravel.

The security robot can patrol on a scheduled set route or routes and can report on anomalies that are found on its patrol route.

The robot uses machine vision learning inertial navigation and other proprietary navigation systems to know exactly where it is and where it is going.

The S5 Robotic Guard can operate up to 12 hours without recharging and continuously monitors in any weather environment, including rain, snow, gusty wind and temperatures ranging from -7 degrees F to 110 degrees F.

It incorporates automatic obstacle avoidance sensors, two-way audio, panic button and onboard panoramic video surveillance to increase situational awareness.

Additionally, it integrates with leading video management solutions and supports other business systems for special equipment, sensor integration, and advanced software development.

The S5 Robotic Guard is ideal for critical infrastructure and perimeter security to lower risk boost productivity and ensure safety.

It is also essential for remote location monitoring, providing security where otherwise none would be reasonable to implement, including oil and gas production facilities, utility locations and other enterprise sites.

Modern Robotic Guards

Modern Robotic Guards can be used by organizations to make their security departments move beyond “guns, guards and gates” to streamline departments.

By utilizing our RADBot™, they can enhance their ability to effectively patrol large sites.

How it works:

  • Patrols a set route or routes depending on schedule.
  • While on patrol, 360 degrees of video are captured by the robot.
  • This video is an extension of the organization’s existing data capture, operational and safety efforts.
  • Security officers and/or the Security Operations Center (SOC) can view the video of what the robot ‘sees’ at any time.
  • The robot will alert a guard or the SOC when a predefined parameter, such as an individual, is identified.
  • The robot can automatically announce a message to the potential intruder and engage with the SOC for two-way voice control.
  • If so equipped the robot can capture license plate information while on patrol.
  • The robot, if so equipped, can offer remote guards and operators a variety of additional visualization technology including pan/tilt/zoom cameras, IR imaging and/or thermal cameras.
  • Additional integration options are available.
