Shooter Detection Systems (SDS), an Alarm.com company and provider of leading gunshot detection solutions, is pleased to announce the SDS Indoor Gunshot Detection System, has been Nominated to compete in the 2023 ‘ASTORS’ Homeland Security Awards Program.
New for 2023, Shooter Detection Systems‘ 2022 ‘ASTORS’ Award-Winning Product “SDS Indoor Gunshot Detection System“ has added a free new feature.
The SDS Emergency Response Service combines the power of SDS’s dual-factor gunshot detection sensors with the Noonlight SendPolice platform to deliver an advanced emergency response solution that enhances situational awareness for first responders during active shooter incidents.
The SDS’ New Emergency Response Service dramatically improves the delivery of relevant data to 911 Call Centers during a gun violence event while greatly reducing the burden on victims to communicate critical information during a crisis effectively.
“Shooter Detection Systems is poised for continued growth and innovation in 2023 with many new technology and business developments on the horizon,” explains Joe Byron, VP of Sales, Shooter Detection Systems.
“We never stop innovating to save lives threatened by gun violence, and we are excited to unveil new solutions and partnerships that speak directly to this commitment.”

Working together, engineers from SDS and Noonlight have created an instantaneous, two-way data interface between SDS’ Situational Awareness software and Noonlight’s SendPolice Platform.
911 operators will have direct access to SDS’ accurate gunshot detection data, providing police with the most up-to-date information regarding gun violence.
With this service, a 911 operator receives real-time updates as an event unfolds, including if more shots are fired and any change of location of shots detected inside the building.
A GPS map of the location and a group SMS conversation puts first responders, 911 operators, the Emergency Response Services operator, and the building point(s) of contact in direct communication with one another.
SDS provides all this information in real time so first responders have the most detailed and updated information available to help mitigate the threat before it can escalate further.
The unique new SDS Emergency Response software service is made possible via a powerful integration between SDS and Noonlight’s SendPolice capability that allows trained operators to have push-button access directly to the 911 center serving the incident location.
By automating how incident information is shared and received, first responders will be empowered with the highest level of situational awareness.
(See how Noonlight combines advanced technology with real humans to protect and comfort people so they can live freely. Launched in 2013 as a mobile application, Noonlight has since grown into a connected safety platform — partnering with products and services to enable modern and affordable 24/7 professional sensor monitoring, video monitoring, and data-rich emergency response. Noonlight works everywhere in the United States, allowing people to quickly get help in any situation without requiring a 911 call or the ability to talk or text. SDS customers will instantly know that the new Emergency Response Service has been activated and that their data is being automatically and continuously transmitted to a 911 Call Center.
The solution goes beyond E911 by leveraging the Noonlight platform to expedite the continuous transmission of shot location information to law enforcement responding to the event.
The solution also enables the 911 call taker, responding officers, onsite security, and building managers to communicate and share information in real-time and view critical contextual data, including the building, room, and floor location of gunshot events.
These new capabilities are included with the standard SDS software package for new and existing SDS software users.
Also new for 2023, SDS’s parent company, Alarm.com is now offering a specially configured SDS Indoor Gunshot Detection Sensor for small to medium-sized enterprises.
Now smaller businesses can integrate gunshot detection into their security portfolio at a more economical price.
Shooter Detection Systems believes that every citizen deserves the highest protection against active shooters in their everyday locations as employees at work, students in school, and visitors to municipal, government, recreational, and retail spaces.
The company is equally dedicated to protecting critical infrastructure against shooter threats to homeland security.
SDS is committed to improving the global security infrastructure by developing gunshot detection solutions that far exceed industry standards for quality, safety, and performance, reducing response time, providing greater clarity in communications, and saving lives in active shooter incidents.

Guardian Indoor Active Shooter Detection
The Guardian Indoor Active Shooter Detection System’s dual mode acoustic and infrared gunshot detection technology filters out false alerts by validating live gunshot events, allowing end users the confidence to automate the delivery of critical, lifesaving information and integrated security actions for effective active shooter response.
While other systems rely on acoustic-only detection with database matching, and in some cases, human interpretation, before reporting shots, which delays reporting time and raises the likelihood of false alerts, Guardian is one of the few solutions on the market that provides third-party laboratory testing to validate its capabilities.
Guardian Wireless sensors utilize a proven long-range, low-power wireless technology, a star network topology, and sub-1GHz spread spectrum radio communications with AES encryption.
(See a brief technology overview and live integrated gunshot detection demonstration so you can learn how the Guardian System works, and learn how it operates in response to gunfire in real time. Courtesy of Shooter Detection Systems and YouTube.)
Combined with the successful information security and penetration testing SDS’ global customers have done on the Guardian Software, and the library of certified integrations with the industry’s leading security technologies, Guardian Wireless stands alone against all competing offers.
New for 2022: The US Patent & Trademark Office awarded a patent to SDS for “cable-free gunshot detection,” which is SDS’s 8th patent in the field of indoor gunshot detection.
The Guardian system is still the only indoor gunshot detection system SAFETY Act certified (Red Seal – full certification) by the Department of Homeland Security.

The pinnacle of the Annual ‘ASTORS’ Awards Program is the Annual ‘ASTORS’ Awards Ceremony Luncheon Banquet, an exclusive, full-course plated meal event, in the heart of New York City.
The 2022 exclusive sold-out ‘ASTORS’ luncheon featured representatives of law enforcement, public safety, and industry leaders who came together to honor the selfless service of those who stand on the front lines and those who stand beside them – providing the capabilities and technologies to create a safer world for generations to come.
Last year marked the 20th anniversary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which came out in force to discuss comprehensive collaborations between private and public sectors that have led to the development of intelligence and technologies which serve to protect our nation.
The keynote address was provided by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office of Field Operations (OFO) Deputy Executive Assistant Commissioner (DEAC) Diane Sabatino, who described the changes to CBP through the tragedy of 9/11 and the relentless commitment to its mission and ongoing investment in the latest technologies and innovations to protect our borders and Homeland.
The resounding theme of the DEAC’s remarks was her pride in the women and men of the CBP and their families who support them.
AST was also joined by Legendary Police Commissioner William Bratton, who spoke about his love for the City of New York, the Profession of law enforcement to which he has dedicated his life, and for which he continues to drive thought leadership and innovation.
New York City Police Department (NYPD) Chief of Department Kenneth Corey, came out to address Luncheon attendees and shared some of his experiences and the changes in policing he’s witnessed over his more than three decades of service.
FDNY Chief Joseph Jardin honored the men and women of the FDNY, not only those who currently serve but all of those who have selflessly served, with special recognition of those lost on 9/11.
Chief Jardin spoke about the continuing health battle of many following 9/11 with cancer and respiratory disease, yet now knowing the full consequences, would not have made a different decision to respond.
As Chief Jardin noted, mission-driven service is the lifeblood of every firefighter, volunteer, and sworn member, and has been so throughout the history of the Fire Service.
Former head of the FBI’s active shooter program, Katherine Schweit joined AST to sign complimentary copies of her book, ‘STOP THE KILLING: How to End the Mass Shooting Crisis, thanks to the generosity of our 2022 ‘ASTORS’ Awards Sponsors.
