Securing Access for Vaccine Manufacturers in a COVID-19 World

The U.S. government has invested more than $5 billion in COVID-19 vaccines, creating a race to the finish line in the Biopharma industry, many of which rely on ‘made in the USA’ Aeroturn high performance turnstiles to secure against unauthorized access to their facilities, and protect themselves from situations emanating from corporate espionage, vaccine protestors, product tampering, and leaked information.

Guest Editorial by Monique Merhige, President, Infusion Direct Marketing

With the COVID-19 global pandemic on the rise and no end in sight, the Biopharma industry has received billions in US government funding to push the development of a COVID vaccine forward.

The race is on as drug makers across the country work diligently to develop vaccines and therapies to help fight the COVID-19 battle.

The U.S. government will pay $1.95 billion to buy 100 million doses of a COVID-19 vaccine being developed by Pfizer Inc. and German biotech BioNTech SE if it proves to be safe and effective.**

The contract is the most the United States has agreed to spend on a vaccine, under “Operation Warp Speed,” the White House program aimed at accelerating access to vaccines and treatments for the new coronavirus.

Previous deals with other vaccine makers were intended to also help pay for development costs.

The U.S. government has agreed to invest more than $5 billion in vaccines and has funded more than 30 projects, including for diagnostics and treatments.

AstraZeneca, a global biopharmaceutical company has also received 1 billion from the government towards research and development and is currently working with Oxford University to develop a vaccine.

With significant progress being made, the projections are for the first deliveries potentially starting in September.

Biopharmaceutical, also known as a biologic(al) medical product, or biologic, is any pharmaceutical drug product manufactured in, extracted from, or semi-synthesized from biological sources.

Different from totally synthesized pharmaceuticals, they include vaccines, blood, blood components, allergenics, somatic cells, gene therapies, tissues, recombinant therapeutic protein, and living medicines used in cell therapy.

With the current global health pandemic, Biopharma manufacturers need to upgrade their security quickly and efficiently to help keep their facilities safe from anti-vaccine protestors and people trying to steal confidential information.

The COVID-19 pandemic has created a race to the finish line when it comes to developing a safe and effective vaccine through research and development.

(Learn More. Humankind has never had a more urgent task than creating broad immunity for coronavirus. Realistically, if we’re going to return to normal, we need to develop a safe, effective vaccine—and we need to do it faster than we’ve ever developed a vaccine before. These manufacturers need to protect themselves from situations emanating from corporate espionage, vaccine protestors, product tampering, and leaked information.

The way to accomplish this effectively is to secure the perimeter of the facilities with high performance turnstiles and create a strong barrier to prevent unauthorized access.

Over the years, Aeroturn, a leading made in the USA turnstile manufacturer has been instrumental in helping this Biopharma industry secure their facilities where access control and securing the perimeter needs to be tight.

The Biopharma industry needs must only deploy a best-in-class turnstile solution that can operate without any downtime to ensure the wrong person or group does not enter the premises.

Aeroturn has been working in the US Biopharma industry as well as multi-continent companies with headquarters based in the US and continues to deliver quality turnstiles that can be counted on to secure these high-profile facilities.

We are proud to have been selected as the winning turnstile solution for a major Biopharma company in North America who is helping the fight against COVID-19 after competing against two other large well-known turnstile manufacturers,” explains Michael Stoll, VP of Technical Sales & Marketing at Aeroturn.

Aeroturn won the initial project back in 2018 and all future installations based on superior reputation, performance specifications, durability, endurance, our 5-year warranty & zero maintenance mechanisms, and a 10 million passages guarantee.”

With a phased approach, Aeroturn won Phase I in September of 2018 and deployed four lanes of its enhanced X-Wing turnstiles with custom LED’s that matched the corporate colors at the Biopharma company’s North American headquarters.

X-Wing Turnstile are high performance fixed-hinged pivot style barriers with modular mechanics that provide unlimited flexibility to secure access points, hallways, and even running in tandem to create mantraps with screening in between.

Phase II consisted of an additional 11 lanes of X-Wing turnstiles that were deployed the following year at another campus.

After proving themselves over the course of two years, Aeroturn was selected once again in 2020 to complete Phase III with an additional 8 lanes of turnstiles and the remaining to be deployed at the end of 2020 at the same campus.

Each location came with its own set of customized floor conditions, side entry cabling, and low-profile platforms when necessary; making this a customized turnstile solution.

Aeroturn designs, manufactures, tests, delivers and installs the world’s only Zero-Maintenance standard and custom turnstiles that are 100% Made in the USA. The highest profile end-users in the world agree with the Aeroturn approach and continue to request Aeroturn products when upgrading and expanding their facilities.

In addition, all work was performed off-hours and weekends to help minimize disruption at the facility at no additional cost to the Biopharma company.

Phase IV has already commenced with the architects and engineers specifying portions of the next group of security upgrades for 2021; which will include more Aeroturn turnstiles deployed.

Being Proactive When It Comes To Security

Due to the current national emergency, the Biopharma industry needs to be proactive when it comes to securing its entrance ways with quality, reliable turnstiles to protect valuable vaccine research.

As a vaccine manufacturer, coming up with a quality vaccine is just as important as keeping it safe with the right perimeter protection solution.

With the requests for turnstiles highly expedited at these vaccine manufacturing facilities; Aeroturn is ready to deliver and handle the influx.

With a sparkling track record for quality, Aeroturn offers the Biopharma industry turnstiles that never had a single lane replacement due to performance failure in 15 years.

In addition, every customer is offered a 10 million passage guarantee without required maintenance and an industry leading 5-year warranty.
