The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) TSA Pre✓® program has reached a milestone with more than 5 million travelers enrolled.
TSA Pre✓®, which opened its first application center in December 2013, now has more than 390 application centers nationwide, including locations at 44 airports.
“By growing the trusted traveler population, we help our officers focus on potential threats, which strengthens the security screening process and ultimately provides better security for all travelers,” said TSA Acting Administrator Huban A. Gowadia.
“We will continue our efforts to further expand the TSA Pre✓® program, with the ultimate goal of providing the most effective security in the most efficient way.”

TSA Pre✓®, which is now available at more than 180 U.S. airports, is an expedited screening program that enables low-risk travelers to enjoy a more convenient and efficient screening experience.
Travelers using the TSA Pre✓® lane do not need to remove shoes, belts, light jackets, laptops or 3-1-1 liquids from their carry-on bags.
U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents may apply for TSA Pre✓® for a cost of $85 for five years, or $17 per year.
Once approved, travelers will receive a “known traveler number” and will have the opportunity to utilize TSA Pre✓® lanes at select security checkpoints when flying on any of the 37 participating airlines.
Travelers may also enroll in one of three trusted traveler programs offered by U.S. Customs and Border Protection: Global Entry, NEXUS or SENTRI.

Members of these programs are eligible to participate in TSA Pre✓® and do not need to apply separately; once successfully enrolled in a CBP trusted traveler program, participants may utilize their “PASSID” as their known traveler number.
TSA Pre✓® is also available for U.S. Armed Forces service members, including those serving in the U.S. Coast Guard, Reserves and National Guard.

As always, TSA continues to incorporate unpredictable security measures, both seen and unseen, throughout the airport.
All travelers will be screened, and no individual will be guaranteed expedited screening.
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) was created to strengthen the security of the nation’s transportation systems and ensure freedom of movement for people and commerce.
TSA uses risk-based strategy and works closely with transportation, law enforcement and intelligence communities to set the standard for excellence in transportation security.
