An U.S. Border Patrol Agent was stabbed in the eye on Saturday, after an apparently targeted attack.
According to KVIA, the incident occurred about 2 AM in the parking lot of the Union Drafthouse Bar, in the 12000 block of Tierra Este. Agent Isaac Morales, age 30, was off-duty and walking to his car, with his girlfriend, and another couple.
In a news release, police said that “…without provocation, the offender initiated a confrontation.” They said that Agent Morales identified himself as a Border Patrol Agent, but the suspect still stabbed him several times.
The suspect, later identified as Hisaias Justo Lopez, 39, “ran from the scene, and was chased by the victim, his friend, and other witnesses.”
While Lopez was being chased, he turned around and stabbed Agent Morales in the eye.
Lopez fled, but witnesses caught up to him about a block away, and held him down until police arrived.
Agent Morales was transported to an area hospital where his injuries are considered life-threatening.
Lopez is in custody at the El Paso Detention Center on $500,000 secured bond. His name is not being released at this time.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Agent Isaac Morales and his family.
