Vigilant Solutions, an artificial intelligence (AI) and data analytics company that provides technology to law enforcement, and Platinum Award Winner in the 2017 ‘ASTORS’ Homeland Security Awards Program, is pleased to announce the company has been nominated to compete in the 2018 ‘ASTORS’ Homeland Security Awards Program, with multiple product nominations to cover a range of applications, in a variety of categories.
Gun violence in America is out of control.
As of September 14, there had been 41,228 incidents of gun violence in 2018 in the U.S.
To combat these escalating challenges, Vigilant Solutions provides law enforcement with firearm forensic mapping technology with GunOps, designed to help law enforcement solve and drive down gun crime.
GunOps is a user-friendly, interactive investigation tool that allows firearm examiners, detectives and intelligence analysts to work as a team, linking gun crimes and suspects, used by several high-profile public safety agencies across North America, as well as internationally.
(GunOps facilitates a visual and interactive way to monitor recovered firearm evidence as it is booked, allowing crime lab technicians to filter and view firearm-related evidence according to geographical areas, which then enables the operator to more quickly zero in on the targets of greatest opportunity to success. GunOps enables a visual and interactive way to monitor recovered firearm evidence as it is booked into the police department.
Cloud-based, secure, and an on-demand software application, GunOps uses resilient and proprietary grid storage technology.
This allows Crime Lab Technicians to filter and view firearm-related evidence according to geographical areas, which then enables the operator to more quickly zero in on the targets of greatest opportunity to success.
This is accomplished by connecting many pieces of information in order to link crimes, guns and suspects in a timelier manner so as to be of most value to investigators.
The web application manages a large volume of information on firearms crimes and is completely searchable making GunOps the ultimate time saver.
GunOps enables authorized users from official law enforcement agencies to input and ingest data sets, such as:
- Records Management Systems (RMS) data
- Computer-aided Dispatch (CAD) data
- Laboratory Incident Management Systems (LIMS) data
- on gun-related cases easily and readily visualize the relationships between them in terms of:
- Time
- Proximity, and
- Firearm evidence characteristics
- on gun-related cases easily and readily visualize the relationships between them in terms of:
The GunOps solution has an extensive API, allowing for full access to the secure cloud and third-party application development, including secure chat.
Through integration with Vigilant’s LEARN platform, GunOps can map to ballistic, license plate recognition (LPR), DNA and facial recognition data in one place, resulting in a more comprehensive view of an investigation and accessing more leads, faster.

Law enforcement agencies can use GunOps strategically to link crimes by mapping out hot spots and using advanced analytics to take prolific offenders off the street earlier and faster, thereby reducing violent crime.
Additionally, GunOps visualization and association capabilities are used by law enforcement agencies to deploy their department’s resources more efficiently, where and when they are most needed.
GunOps in Action
A state police department has been sharing the agency’s National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN), LPR and record management system (RMSP) data statewide – through the use of GunOps with over 700 authorized users including individuals at eight state crime labs, state police homicide detectives, district attorney’s offices, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
With GunOps, they are effectively able to visualize links to cross-border shootings.
The sharing of intelligence via GunOps has helped the department cross reference the additional information that is appended to NIBIN in GunOps, which is then shared statewide to identify commonality between crimes and to generate valuable leads.
Utilizing GunOps, they have been successful in disrupting gun violence cycles and reversed the trend of cross-border hits that at the states high point, exceeded 48 percent.
Ballistics processing activity is up 300 percent, and gun crime in the state has decreased 20 percent.
Simply put, GunOps allows law enforcement investigators and analysts to enter, visualize and access information about firearm-related crimes, forensic test results and armed criminals.
GunOps complements Vigilant Solutions existing suite of artificial intelligence (AI) solutions, which includes automated license plate reader (ALPR) data, facial recognition technology (FaceSearch) and ballistics analysis solutions (BallisticSearch).
