U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers recently seized a significant amount of alleged heroin and methamphetamine carrying a combined estimated street value of more than $1.8 million in one enforcement action over the weekend.
“CBP officers display exemplary vigilance in keeping dangerous drugs off our streets,” said Port Director Gregory Alvarez, Laredo Port of Entry.
“I congratulate our officers for their dedication which has prevented these dangerous narcotics from entering our country.”
The seizure occurred on Friday, April 21, at the Lincoln-Juarez International Bridge when a CBP officer referred a 41-year-old female Mexican citizen from Bakersfield, California who applied for admission as a passenger in a commercial taxi, for a secondary examination.
CBP officers conducted a physical inspection and discovered a total of eight packages of contraband comingled with her personal belongings, which included tubs of mole sauce.
A total of 80 pounds of crystal methamphetamine and nine pounds of heroin were discovered. The narcotics combined carry an estimated street value of $1,843,648.
CBP officers seized the narcotics and the subject was arrested.
The case was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
