LenelS2, the 2020 Gold ‘ASTORS’ Award Winner for Best Access Control & Authentication System, and Recognized in their Third Consecutive ‘ASTORS’ Homeland Security Awards Program, has introduced a new line of BlueDiamond mobile-ready readers.
These new multi-technology readers are cost-effective, designed to provide simultaneous support for a wide range of physical credentials and can be seamlessly upgraded to support BlueDiamond mobile credentials.
LenelS2, a global leader in advanced security systems and services, is a part of Carrier Global Corporation, a leading global provider of healthy, safe and sustainable building and cold chain solutions.
“Access control needs are dynamic, and with BlueDiamond mobile-ready readers, users have a single platform that can meet their needs today, tomorrow and into the future,” explained Jeff Stanek, president, LenelS2.
“These new readers allow organizations to easily transition to mobile credentials at their own pace.”
BlueDiamond is an open platform, and the new line of mobile-ready readers are among the most versatile access control readers on the market.
The readers work seamlessly with existing infrastructure and are access control platform agnostic.
They include support for the standard output protocols including Supervised F/2F (SF/2F), Wiegand, OSDP™ and OSDP V2.
The BlueDiamond platform supports a wide array of non-proprietary credentials with simultaneous support for a range of card technologies including standard proximity, HID® iCLASS®, MIFARE® and DESFire® EV1 and EV2.
The new readers simplify the migration from less secure credential technology, such as traditional proximity cards, to more secure technology using the industry’s open standard, DESFire EV2 using 128-bit AES encryption.
Upgrading a mobile-ready reader to support BlueDiamond mobile credentials is achieved through the purchase of a license and the recommissioning of a reader to support the software. No hardware changes are required.
Additionally, the Security Industry Association’s (SIA) approved Open Supervised Device Protocol (OSDP), which was recently made a global standard by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), and can be used by any manufacturer, is becoming a requested feature on BlueDiamond mobile-ready readers.
(Open Supervised Device Protocol (OSDP) is an access control communications standard developed by the Security Industry Association (SIA) to improve interoperability among access control and security products. Courtesy of the Security Industry Association.)
OSDP provides interoperability among various companies’ access control and security products card readers, door controllers and other peripherals at secured access doors/gates.
With OSDP, all the functions which used to require many physical conductors in the cable run between the reader installed at the physical door location and the access control panel can be fully implemented using just two data wires.
“What OSDP does is use a more intelligent reader that carries on a bi-directional conversation between it and the panel,” further explained Mr. Stanek.
“OSDP supports both encryption and supervision. All data is encrypted and not transmitted the same way twice.
“Supervised connections indicate reader malfunctions or tampering. With OSDP, you are solving a potential identity theft problem because it is not possible to listen in between the reader and credential and decode or inject the captured data elsewhere.
“In order to use OSDP, you need both a reader and a panel capable of participating. OnGuard panels have had this built in for years.
“Recognizing the problem with the inherent insecurity of Wiegand technology, we are offering solutions to provide you with secure reader/credential technology.”
“This is part of our philosophy of assisting our customers in deploying robust security systems for their stakeholders.”
The BlueDiamond platform is part of the Carrier Healthy Buildings Program, designed to help protect people and assets, and to help optimize building health and efficiency.
