Every day, people across the US struggle to communicate their location to 911, wasting crucial minutes (or hours) when peoples lives are at risk. This partnership with what3words enables shortened response times for first responders to remote or unknown locations across Mark43’s customer network.

Mark43, a leading cloud-native public safety software company, and 2020 Platinum ‘ASTORS’ Award Winner, is partnering with innovative location technology what3words, to offer public safety officials a more granular way to locate emergencies faster than ever before, using unique combinations of just three words.

what3words will integrate with Mark43’s Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) to provide more specific insight into a response location.

Additionally, Mark43’s location geocoding will be seamlessly enabled with what3words technology to allow for easy integration within the existing user-friendly Mark43 framework.

The addition of what3words’ technology supports Mark43’s goal of enabling cutting edge service for its public safety customers through a robust platform.

Every day, people across the US struggle to communicate their location to emergency control centers, explains Chris Sheldrick, co-founder and CEO of what3words.

This leads to crucial minutes and sometimes hours lost when trying to save lives, and it can be very distressing for both parties on the call.

This partnership ensures operators can respond quickly, and with the appropriate level of resources, helping to save time and reduce inefficiencies when it matters most, and we look forward to working with the Mark43 team as they continue to innovate and embrace new technologies like ours.

(Many places can be difficult to describe in emergencies, which means that 999 call handlers have to deal with directions like “I can see a farm in the distance…” or “I’m near the white tent”. When every second counts, being able to describe where help is needed is crucial. Courtesy of what3words and YouTube.)

HOW IT WORKS

  • what3words has divided the world into a grid of 10ft squares and given each square a unique combination of three random words: a what3words address.

  • For example, a parking lot entrance might be titled, “voice.gifted.agree” or a specific stadium exit might be titled, “invest.bridge.spicy”.

  • Using a what3words address provides responders with a simple way to describe precisely where help is needed, allowing public safety officials to dispatch resources directly to the scene.

This innovative technology ensures that people who may be struggling to communicate, are in a remote location, or have a low-quality call are still able to be found and assisted.

Anyone involved with the Computer-Aided Dispatch lifecycle knows that location accuracy and intelligence is often the tipping point between a successful response and resolution, or stress and confusion,” added Matt Polega, Co-founder and Head of Communications and Public Policy at Mark43.

“This partnership with what3words has enabled us to break the world down into 10×10 foot squares, each with a simple, distinct name.

With this technology, the dispatcher knows exactly where the first responder is with pinpoint accuracy.

The addition of what3words’ capabilities is another layer on the Mark43 platform that enables us to give first responders the most robust, complete solution available.

what3words is an elegant answer to a complicated  problem, and we’re thrilled to be able to partner with them.”

Maintaining a global presence that consistently delivers an excellent customer experience, Mark43 continuously looks for additional ways to improve and bolster the capabilities of its technology.

As public safety missions continue to evolve, Mark43 is dedicated to offering solutions for agencies anywhere, regardless of their size or mission.
