Quantum Corporation, who was recognized in the 2017 and 2016 ‘ASTORS’ Awards Programs for the company’s StorNext File System and Xcellis System respectively, has entered into an agreement to acquire the video surveillance portfolio and assets of Pivot3, a pioneer in hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) and a leader in intelligent software solutions for the security and surveillance markets.
Pivot3, a 2020 Platinum ‘ASTORS’ Homeland Security Award Winner, recently announced that Pivot3 Surety was nominated to compete in the 2021 ‘ASTORS’ Awards Program for Best Video Data Storage Solution.
Pivot3 Surety brings innovation to the physical security space by providing customers with extensive intelligence and management of their servers and applications, regardless of vendor, including video recording, analytics, access control and others.
This ensures optimum resource utilization, performance, availability, health and configuration of critical security applications, and simplifies management of video infrastructure.
Surety unifies Pivot3’s portfolio of hyperconverged intelligent infrastructure solutions and its Essentials by Pivot3 line of video recording servers and workstations, as well as non-Pivot3 physical security servers and appliances across both distributed and centralized locations.
The software surfaces critical information in a simple management application, serving as mission control for the entire physical security infrastructure.
Surety simplifies management of video infrastructure which saves users both time and money and improves uptime and availability of physical security applications by reducing time to diagnose and resolve issues.
“Software has been improving the ease of use and capabilities of products and systems everywhere except the infrastructure for the physical security industry,” explained Ben Bolles, vice president of product for Pivot3.
“Pivot3 Surety fills the void by delivering innovative solutions with software-based intelligence that are purpose-built to unify and simplify management of physical security environments across a broad range of sizes and complexity.”
Reduce Time, Complexity, and Risk
Organizations can find themselves overwhelmed by managing and monitoring all the various servers and appliances in use for video recording, video analytics, access control, intrusion detection and other physical security applications.
This is especially true in environments with multiple distributed locations, but also in large, centralized environments.
The time it takes to gather all the right information to ensure all the servers and appliances are healthy, performing optimally, and up to date takes you away from other more critical tasks, yet a problem with just one of those servers can put your organization at risk.
Pivot3 Surety unifies the management and monitoring of both Pivot3 servers and appliances along with non-Pivot3 servers and provides visibility and management of key information through a single-pane-of-glass management console, saving you time and ensuring your security applications are running at their peak performance and efficiency.
Centralized Management and Monitoring
Manage, monitor, and inventory 10’s to 1000’s of servers and appliances at remote and/or centralized locations from a single management console.
Surety, running on each server and appliance, gathers health, resource utilization, event, alarm, and configuration information and feeds it into the Pivot3 Management Application, which acts as mission control for your physical security infrastructure. You now have all relevant information at your fingertips.
Be Informed on Health Status
Surety enables you to monitor the health of server node hardware, including disks, power supplies, NICs and whether the server is offline or disconnected. The health of the operating system is also monitored with notification of warnings and critical events.
Understand Resource Utilization
Surety reports on utilization of CPU and memory, as well as storage performance. This information is vital to the performance of applications such as video management software and video analytics, especially if real-time reporting is required.
Secure Communications
All information passed between Surety running on servers and appliances is encrypted as it’s sent to the Pivot3 Management Application. Communications between Surety and the Pivot3 Management Application can be done across completely private networks for use within dark sites.
Supports Essentials by Pivot3 and More
Surety is included with Essentials by Pivot3 video recording servers and workstations, Pivot3 analytics appliances, and Pivot3 Virtual SOC appliances. Surety is also available to run on non-Pivot3 servers enabling management and monitoring of those servers from the Pivot3 Management Application, thus simplifying your overall security infrastructure.
This new acquisition by Quantum Corporation brings a diverse portfolio of video surveillance appliances, network video recorders (NVRs), and management applications along with a scale-out hyperconverged software platform, which going forward will all be offered under the Quantum VS-Series product portfolio.
Together with Quantum’s current line of NVR servers, the StorNext™ File System, and ActiveScale™ object storage, the Pivot3 additions round out a comprehensive surveillance and security portfolio, spanning small to multi-petabyte deployments.
“Surveillance cameras are the biggest data generator on the planet, and Pivot3 has established themselves as one of the leaders in this space by pioneering the use of hyperconverged software for surveillance recording,” says Jamie Lerner, Quantum Chairman and CEO.
“This acquisition represents another key step in Quantum’s transformation, solidifying the company as a serious player in the multi-billion-dollar video surveillance market, expanding our global customer base, sales channels, and technical expertise specific to this industry.”
“We are excited to welcome Pivot3’s surveillance customers and partners to Quantum.”
“We are committed to making sure that they receive excellent service and support throughout this transition, and we have an innovative and compelling roadmap planned that builds on the proven Pivot3 product line with Quantum’s intellectual property and expertise in video.”
“We believe it’s critical to manage the video surveillance data lifecycle from initial capture through expiration, and adding Pivot3 to the Quantum portfolio expands our ability to address security projects of every size and scope,” added Curt Wittich, Quantum’s Vice President of Sales, Strategic Markets.
“Surveillance traditionally utilizes ‘one-size-fits-all’ products that address only primary video storage, but higher quality cameras and increasing retention requirements demand different solutions to support video at various lifecycle stages.”
“These solutions range from entry-level VMS servers all the way to cloud or tape storage for multi-year, multi-petabyte retention. Quantum’s portfolio covers the entire lifecycle for optimal video placement, accessibility, and cost effectiveness.”
The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, and the parties expect to close by July 22, 2021.
