Senstar, a leader in perimeter intrusion detection and video management solutions, and a new Triple-Winner in the 2018 ‘ASTORS’ Homeland Security Awards Program, is pleased to announce its award-winning Senstar LM100 hybrid perimeter intrusion detection and intelligent lighting system has received the Fixture Seal of Approval (FSA) from the International Dark Skies Association (IDA).
IDA is the recognized authority on light pollution with a mission to preserve and protect the nighttime environment and the heritage of dark skies through environmentally responsible outdoor lighting.
Towards that end, IDA developed the FSA program to provide objective, third-party certification for lighting that minimizes glare, reduces light trespass and doesn’t pollute the night sky.
The Senstar LM100, recognized with Platinum, Gold and Silver Wins in the 2018 ‘ASTORS’ Homeland Security Awards Program which includes ‘Best Fencing Solution,’ combines two key security functions in one cutting-edge product, acting as a powerful deterrent against intruders by detecting and illuminating them at the fence line.
An innovative 2-in-1 product, Senstar LM100 acts as a powerful deterrent against intruders, detecting and illuminating them at the fence line while alerting a Security Management System (SMS).
Additionally, the products engineered lighting is environmentally friendly, as its ultra-efficient LED technology luminaires use 95% less power than traditional security lighting systems, and is specially-designed to minimize light pollution.

How it Works
Optimized for use with surveillance camera systems, the Senstar LM100 provides intelligent lighting along the fence line.
Uniform coverage lets cameras operate with a higher dynamic range, ensuring objects and people are illuminated while avoiding the generation of dark silhouettes in front of bright backgrounds.
Each LM100 luminaire includes built-in accelerometer technology that detects any attempt to cut, climb or lift the fence fabric.
Luminaires communicate with each other over a wireless self-healing mesh network to relay information to the local security system (such as sirens and cameras) and/or to a networked SMS.
The system incorporates advanced environmental compensation algorithms that enable it to distinguish between area-wide disturbances caused by high winds and real (localized) intrusion attempts.
A hybrid perimeter intrusion detection and intelligent lighting system means only one system to install, maintain and manage, which saves time, reduces complexity, and lowers costs.
It also means more control over operation, enabling the lighting to react to the site’s current security status.
For example, when an intrusion attempt is detected, the system can increase the brightness or strobe the luminaires in the affected area.
Not only will intruders know they are detected (and presumably be deterred), the bright or strobing lights will often cause them to look up, directly into one of the site’s surveillance cameras.
LM100 Key Features and Benefits Include:
- Specially-engineered lighting specifically designed for perimeter security applications
- Power-efficient LED technology with minimal light pollution
- High color rendering index (CRI) maximizes surveillance camera performance
- Configurable timing and alarm control
- Uniform illumination
- Actively senses vibrations of the fence caused by intrusion attempts
- Alerts security management system if intrusion attempts detected
- Wireless gate sensor option
By combining lighting, sensing and communication technology, the Senstar LM100 system can be used to alert security systems of impending threats while mitigating false environmental triggers on a system level.
“The minimized light pollution of the LM100 makes it ideal for deployment in urban and residential environments where legislation is changing and general environmental awareness continues to grow,” explains Product Manager Todd Brisebois.
“Senstar takes pride in developing high quality products that take into consideration environmental impact and receiving the FSA is testament to our commitment to environmental preservation.”
“Thank you to the IDA for this approval.”
