The award recognizes those who have made a significant contribution to the acceptance and advancement of women in engineering.
“Al has consistently created and developed programs for women to make them feel recognized, respected, and welcomed,” said Sarah MacConduibh, MITRE’s vice president for Air Force programs.
“Through his leadership, MITRE has continued to embrace a diverse, inclusive workforce while also encouraging a collaborative culture.”
Since 2010, MITRE has increased the number of women in executive roles by 50 percent.
The company has established corporate memberships with SWE and other organizations that offer MITRE’s female engineers a chance to further their professional development, network with others, participate in special training and conferences, and showcase their technical work to a broader audience.

The company also recently created a yearlong leadership training program for female employees that is offered through its Office of Inclusion and Diversity.
MITRE also hosts an annual Young Women in Engineering Day, an effort intended to encourage middle and high-school aged girls to consider engineering careers.
Hundreds of female students have visited MITRE during this event and interacted with the staff.
MITRE and its employees have received numerous honors for diversity efforts. Examples include being part of DiversityComm, Inc’s Top STEM Companies for Women and on Workforce Diversity for Engineering & IT Professionals Magazine’s Top 50 Employer List.
