Axis Communications, a Triple 2020 ‘ASTORS’ Award Winner, is pleased to announce the AXIS W100 is one of three products nominated to compete in the 2021 ‘ASTORS’ Homeland Security Awards Program.
Launched in 2020, the Axis body worn camera system-including the robust AXIS W100 Body Worn Camera, docking station and system controller-represents the company’s first entry into the body worn camera market.
The AXIS W100 Body Worn Camera is an easy-to-use body worn camera that lets users store and manage video seamlessly, producing sharp images and clear audio, thanks to dual microphones with noise suppression.
It’s lightweight, robust, and water-resistant, starting and stopping quickly with a single touch, and buffers up to 90 seconds before it’s switched on so users can catch entire encounters.
(The Axis body worn system is based on open standards for flexibility and scalability. It Integrates seamlessly with whatever VMS systems you’re using now or you can use it with your current Axis solution. We can provide you with a complete end-to-end solution that includes AXIS Camera Station VMS, or you can use AXIS W100 Body Worn Camera with a third-party VMS or EMS, either on-site or in the cloud. Either way, you decide how you want to manage your video evidence – while protecting the value of your existing investments. Courtesy of AXIS Communications and YouTube.)
The AXIS W100 Body Worn Camera features silent mode for discrete recording, holds a battery life of over 12 hours, USB charging, and fast offloading make it ready to go whenever and a snap to put away.
The AXIS W100, which took the 2020 Platinum ‘ASTORS’ Award for Best Body Worn Video Solution, also features Axis Zipstream technology so users can store as much footage as needed without compromising video quality – onsite or in the cloud.
It also lives up to official FBI standards for cybersecurity with end-to-end encryption, and it’s easy to add as many cameras as needed at any time with open standards and cost-efficient docking stations.
The AXIS W100 Body Worn Camera comes with an easy-to-use mobile app – the AXIS Body Worn Assistant – for viewing and labeling in the field, making it easier to find and retrieve evidence.
The AXIS Body Worn Assistant app is available for iPhone and Android, giving users instant access to stored recordings on the AXIS W100 Body Worn Camera, so users can start reporting out in the field by categorizing a recording and attaching notes to it.
All added information becomes part of the metadata and is automatically transferred off the camera when docked.
Finally, the Live View function assists with positioning the camera correctly on the body and can be used to view live action from around a corner or behind a barrier.
The solution was the result of extensive research and development, including the methodological approach Axis takes to the creation of new solutions refined through the company’s decades of experience, including numerous interviews with law enforcement and private security organizations.

“As a new form factor for Axis, it (the AXIS W100) created a number of design challenges, including finding the optimum combination of size, weight, the need for robustness and maximizing battery life,” explained Jonas Sjögren, Industrial Design Manager, Axis Communications.
“To get all these elements right, our research and iterative design process included numerous, invaluable conversations with customers, multiple product prototypes and a number of early-stage pilot projects.”
“It’s almost a year since we launched the new body worn solution, and feedback from customers has been overwhelmingly positive, demonstrating that the rigorous design approach was worth it!” added Fredrik Andersson, Global Product Manager, New Solutions Initiative, Axis Communications.
