Shooter Detection Systems (SDS),  a provider of world-leading gunshot detection solutions – and a 2023 Platinum ‘ASTORS’ Homeland Security Award Champion for Best Gunshot Detection Solution – plans to introduce a new #TakeAction initiative at CES 2024 aimed at empowering individuals to make their schools, workplaces, and communities safer by employing lifesaving gunshot detection technology.

In an active shooter situation, gunshot detection is highly effective at mitigating injury and loss of life.

Still, gunshot detection is often overlooked by federal funding sources that traditionally support a wide range of preventative gun violence measures.

The #TakeAction campaign aims to educate individuals about gunshot detection’s crucial role in maintaining safe and secure spaces and provide specific tools for consumers to advocate for gunshot detection to their school, government, and workplace leaders.

“An average of one death can occur every 10 seconds during an active shooter event. So when a shooting starts, reducing the time it takes for authorities to get to the shooter is the most vital dimension,” explains Stephen Carney, the President of Shooter Detection Systems.

“With gunshot detection technology, responders can know immediately that a gun has been fired and in what area of the building the shot occurred.”

The initiative is also designed to provide people with the resources to personally lobby their place of business or child’s school to deploy gunshot detection technology to create a safer environment that can quickly alert law enforcement in an active shooter incident.

Shooter Detection Systems gunshot technology enables the communication of critical incident details within 10 seconds to 911 to alert law enforcement and individuals at the scene, using ResponderLink, a software-embedded integration with SDS sister company Noonlight.

SDS software alerts are intercepted by trained safety agents at Noonlight, who provide a live URL dashboard of incident information to the 911 operator, including the push of continuous incident information, such as where the latest shots were fired.

(See how Noonlight combines advanced technology with real humans to protect and comfort people so they can live freely. Noonlight allows people to get help quickly in any situation without requiring a 911 call or the ability to talk or text. Courtesy of Noonlight, formerly SafeTrek and YouTube.)

By combining purpose-built acoustic and infrared sensors with proprietary detection algorithms, SDS’ Active Shooter Intelligence accurately detects, verifies, and validates a gunshot with 99.9% accuracy and virtually zero false alarms.

SDS will participate in two media events during CES 2024, which will occur in Las Vegas from January 9-12, 2024.

The first event is CES Unveiled, held on Sunday, January 7th, from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. The second event is Pepcom, which will occur on Monday, January 8th, from 7 to 10:30 p.m. at The Mirage.

Shooter Detection Systems SDSShooter Detection Systems, an Alarm company, is a proven leader in gunshot detection and delivers Active Shooter Intelligence with proprietary technology engineered for precision, performance, and saving lives.

The company’s ‘ASTORS’ Award-Winning product, SDS Indoor Gunshot Detection (formerly Guardian), is SAFETY Act Certified by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, NPSA rated and “Approved for UK Government Use” in the Catalogue of Security Equipment of the National Protective Security Authority (NSPA), and SL4 Certified by the Australian Government’s Security Construction & Equipment Committee (SCEC).

  • This unique new software service is made possible via a powerful integration between SDS and Noonlight’s SendPolice capability that allows trained operators to have push-button access directly to the 911 center serving the incident location.

  • With the SDS Emergency Response Service, a 911 operator receives real-time updates as an incident unfolds, including if more shots are fired and the changing location of shots detected inside the building. This allows operators to accurately update responding officers regarding the location of the last shots fired.

  • In keeping with SDS’ commitment that every citizen deserves the right to the highest protection against active shooters, these new capabilities are included with the standard SDS software package for new and existing SDS software users. Also new for 2023, is “SDS powered by Alarm.com”.
