Frank Leeb is a Deputy Assistant Chief with the Fire Department of New York (FDNY), and he serves as the Chief of Safety at the New York City Fire Department.

He has been a member of the FDNY since 1992.

Frank has also been a East Farmingdale Fire Department member since 1983 (Long Island, NY).

He holds a BS degree in Fire Service Administration from SUNY and a Master’s degree in Security Studies from the Naval Postgraduate School, Center for Homeland Defense and Security (CHDS).  

He is a frequent author and speaker on several fire service topics, most notably topics concerning cancer in the fire service.

Frank is the current chair of the FDNY Contamination Reduction Workgroup, a position he has held since its inception in June 2017.

He is a principal serving on NFPA Technical Committee Fire and Emergency Service Organization and Deployment-Career (NFPA 1710), a Principal serving on NFPA Technical Committee Emergency Responders Occupational Health (NFPA 1585), and a principal serving on NFPA Technical Committee on Cannabis Growing and Processing Facilities  (NFPA 420).   

Frank has also served as an advisory panel member for the UL Firefighter Safety Research Institute’s (FSRI) “Study of Coordinated Attack in Acquired Structures.”

(Chemicals linked to cancer were found in all three layers of protective gear worn by firefighters.
